Colored grips an advantage?

I recently bought some black vise grips.  Upon drilling up a few balls and installing the grips and a matching black thumb slug, I noticed that unless the ball had a lot of big bright logos, it was was very tough to see when/where the ball was revving up, which makes it difficult to read the reaction.  Its nice to know if the ball is revving up and just skidding.. or if its not even trying to rev up and just skating.. or if its burning up early.  Anyone else notice this?  

So although I think that black grips/slug looks good in the ball, they don't give you any info on the ball reaction....  I'm sure this goes for other darker colors as well.  I think that I am going to look for orange grips and slugs... LOL

Strapper, I made almost this exact same topic a little while back.  Except just about the ball's color itself.  I effectively got the message "if you're a real bowler you should know what the ball is doing without having to watch it".....

LOL, I guess I'm not a real bowler...  I would think that a person would want any advantage possible with a ball...including extra feedback about the reaction.

And you get feedback on breakdown and transition by NOT watching your ball?  Why would anyone, regardless of talent level, want to ignore feedback that can only help them adjust?  Maybe that's why so many a "real bowler" doesn't understand why those corner pins are standing all night long...

Thats why I use colors that provide the most contrast from the ball color.  Black ball......bright orange slugs & grips.  Heck, orange should provide the most contrast with any ball I would think, other then an orange ball, then I would use something like blue or black.

I think it's a personal preference.  I hate light multi-colored balls and I hate contrasting logos and inserts.  It's too distracting.  I like darker balls () with dark logos (ala Heat) as they are much easier to read.  However, there are others who like or need to see the inserts for feedback purposes.

I got clear grips for my absolute.  It is hard to see exactly what the ball is doing.  Fortunately the large logos help, except that you can't really tell which logo you're seeing all the time.

At first, I was also into ball looks and hated my white and purple(!) inserts. But now I came to like especially the white ones plus a white urethane thumb slug, because it makes reading ball reaction much easier. For the same reason I like my Shock & Awe very much: with the fat pin and the ball name around it it is very easy to read ball raection and tilt transition. The other big logos/engravings on the ball help, too. It is the most "telling" ball I currently have in my arsenal.

Usually i use Yellow Oval grips in all my ballz because they stand out and i can see them rolling down the lane. Also i use (if available) an orange slug

I don't use finger inserts, but I usually pick a thumb slug color that compliments the ball and logo colors.  Sometimes the pin is enough to let you know how you released the ball.  Sometimes a little extra help is nice.  My WMB has a big logo surrounding a large pin, so I went with a black slug so I wouldn't have too many things to look at.  I think I remember reading something about Brian Voss "blacking" out his logos.  He could read his ball reaction just fine, plus it masked his lack (comparatively) of revs.

FYI....all this may not be true for all pro bowlers but most I know usually use a neutral color that macthes the cover.  Why......cuz they don't want their opponent in match play to read their ball....this would be righty against right/wrongsider against wrongsider.  Take a look next Sunday....I'll bet most all if using grips use black or a neutral color to the covers color.

That makes a great deal of sense, however I'd argue that due to differences in the bowling balls being used as well as an individual's unique release, it would not be likely that one pro would gain much from reading the reaction of another pros ball. Now to destroy any validity to the perspective I've just presented. Can someone please explain to me the advantage of finger grips and inserts?
