Oil patterns...part 2
« on: August 21, 2006, 08:10:05 AM »

When a pattern is described as Short etc what approx is the generally accepted distances involved i.e. would say a 36' pattern be short or medium lenth?.I realise that anything over 40' would probably be regarded as long, it's mainly the area short to medium that needs defining.Thanks.

Below 37' is short, 37-41' is medium, and past 41' is long.  I think the typical house condition is in the 39-40' range.

Honestly I've never seen one.  I'll admit that saying "below 37' is a short pattern" seems to give a really big range for "short", and certainly a 36' pattern will play significantly differently than a 20' one, in the modern game, oil is 40' give or take a little.

The WTBA defines short as 28-32 ft and long as 40-44 ft.

If I ran into a 20 ft pattern, I'd call it the out the door...because I'd run and hide....
