It seems like the new big marketing thing is bowling balls with continuation on the back end. It seems like they are producing stronger covers with more back end and continuation. Are the ball manufactures actually doing something in the design of the balls to create "continuation" or is this just hype? If not, what factors in a bowling ball contribute to more continuation?

Is continuation marketing hype?
Before Mo Pinel went to Radical, he said continuation is nothing but marketing bullpucky. Which is lying.

Once he was at Radical, he started using the term in descriptions of their balls.
Shortly after a definition magically appeared:
Continuation is a longer, more gradual hook. That is not related to the total amount of the change of direction of the ball.
So is it marketing hype? I'm all depends on who is saying it.
Almost every time a new ball comes out, it has more continuation than the last. If that was true the balls would be shooting out the back of the building like cannon balls.

Me as well.

I think of continuation as the roll phase of ball motion .The phase as to which the ball enters the pins

No surprise that continuation comes on the heels of a bunch of hook monster shells that burn early for most people. As such I think the goal of companies has been to find core shell matchups that promote better continuation for more styles. However I still think it is more hype than success .

I agree
