Title: critique the pros!
Post by: militant02 on January 17, 2019, 09:30:59 PM
while watching a telecast recently i recall randy peterson say that ej tackett has a great physical game but he needs to realize that he doesn't need to try to hit a home run on every shot which i understood to mean that he might have a more consistent ball reaction on some patterns if he didn't exert maximum effort on every shot.

although the pros are light years better than i'll ever be it made me think about other past or present pros and what flaws or improvements could other professional bowlers make with their physical or mental games? i've heard a local regional pro say that one particular touring pro that has a great physical game has a hard time being consistent because his first adjustment when the lanes start to transition is to immediately move deep inside sliding near the gutter instead of making a small adjustment with his release to stay further right.

i could be wrong but during the most recent telecast dom barrett had a great ball reaction during his first match but it looked like the shot broke down so much that he might have been better served lowering the amount of rotation that he had so that his ball didn't overeact once it reached the end of the pattern.

does anyone have more examples of improvements that they think a particular pro could make or errors in lane play that you have seen?

I wonder if another pro will ever be consistently early like Marshal Holman.  Guy made it work obviously being top 10 ever but outlier for sure.  As for modern guys nah I would just be the fat guy in the lazy boy sterotype telling Lebron James how to dunk.

You guys have no idea how fast a pattern can break down with 4 guys getting 500+ rpms on it and can hit the same spot with accuracy like the pros. They break down the zones 4-5x faster than us league guys because they have twice the revrate and can carve out a groove in a pattern in half a game, just repeating shots. Small adjustments keep you in play on tour, but if you want to make huge jumps and need 250+ final game, you need to make a huge move with your zone and find a fresh look rather than beating up the same zone and "backing off of it".

Nobody on the mens tour wants to back off of it when they have the hand to generate the angle and finish from 6th arrow.

There's a reason you see guys jump 12 left at a time. The zone they had a good look in is just tore up. Smaller fish move boards. Higher caliber players move zones. House bowlers don't realize it because there's only one zone on a ths. The friction.

If only local sport shot tournaments were broken down similar to that as well. The shot might be more 12-6, but some people start wingin their sh!t 24-9 at the start, your zone move now is on top of their friction.

even in local sport tournaments, you don't get guys with tour accuracy and revrate to break them down properly, or much at all. That's why you rarely see a mid block jump in the field average like you do on tour. Even if you give those guys a 2"x 2" zone down t he lane at 45 feet, they can hit that 50 times in a row and strike all day.

This is why at nationals a companion team is pivotal for making a good run.

This wouldn't be as much of a problem if the SPORT of bowling was taken more seriously.

Agreed.
