Diandra Asbaty and the Bikini issue...

Let me start this off by stating i think she is a great rep for Bowling and has represented the USBC and Womens Bowling very proudly in the states and internationally as well.  We all know she has a cuteness factor that is Katie Couric like.  But what has her posing in a Bikini have to do with bowling?  Is USBC selling these girls out?  The USBC gives them make-overs to attempt to Glam them up and then Asbaty in the Bikini?  Maybe i am just silly but it hit me wrong?  I mean what's next, WRW in a Codpiece if the mens tour suffers?

i don't have a problem with this. she wasn't close to being naked and if many of you long time pba fans remember brian voss posed in less clothing back in the 1980's in a womens "beefcake" magazine. i don't remember anyone( men or women ) getting upset about it.

I don't think people are really "upset" about it.  It was just pretty surprising to see.  To me, it just kind of seemed like they were REALLY desperate to show that bowlers can be sexy too or something.  I realize that they are trying to showcase something for sponsors here so good luck to them.  It's worth a shot since the women's tour is dead right now.

Diandra rocks so I hope they hurry up and show her bowl soon.

what's the problem here? We see worse every day on Television!! She a great looking girl, why not use it to help promote the game. There's nothing wrong with a bikini shot of her!

I am not saying it was horrid.... i just think it is a smack in the face of a legitimate Sport and Women themselves. Think on it in this manner (The producers talking)

1. These girls are ugly so we need to Glam them up to have men watch the show.
2. Let's see Diandra's hot, so lets put her in a shot with a Bikini Top.
3. Maybe we can get the Dorin Sisters to do a sisters Photo Spread like the Barbi Twins.
4. Vargas is Columbian, let's get her in a Brazilian Thong.
5. Stephanie Nation - Let's body paint a US Flag on her and we all call salute the Nation.

I know it is silly stuff i have mentioned here but I see it that way.  I have no problem with the girls looking nice and all that stuff but i think the USBC has fired a direct missile at women and their place in the Sport.  They are saying, you and your version of the sport are not appealing enough on it own so let's sex it up.... thats the only way you girls are gonna get ratings.

Rhetorical question.  Mens tour gets on the brink of cancelation. PBA heads comes to Chris Barnes and Tommy Jones and ask them to get fat, grow mullets and smoke some cigars to get ratings because we all know that Bowling's image is beer drinking rednecks and we want to appeal to that market.  Would they.... I bet not.

Tommy Jones would actaully have a "skullet" not a "mullet", beacse he is balding pretty bad.

That's the point.  Bowling and bowlers have an image of being overweight, beer swilling, cigar/cigarrette smoking, white trash.  And while many bowlers do fit that image, I think there are more that don't.  There are people that won't take up bowling seriously, or even semi-seriously, because of the image bowlers have and they don't want to be associated with that image.  

Women's tennis and golf used to have the image of unnattractive lesbians associated with it (moreso golf than tennis IMO).  Is that what you think of now when you think of the women of those sports?  No, you probably think about Maria Sharapova, the Williams sisters, Michelle Wei, and Anaka Sorenstam (sp).  

Nothing against the talent level of these individuals as all of them could woop me up one end of the house and down the other, but who would you rather be the image of bowling, Michelle Feldman, Wendy McPherson, Rudy Kasimakis and Dave Traber or would you rather it be Asbaty, the Dorins, BV, and Barnes.  I'd chose the latter, as they look like athletes.

Is there ANYTHING the USBC can do that will gain approval?  They work on bowling's image, they are wrong, they ignore bowling's image they are wrong, approve scores, deny scores, attempt to get technology under control, ignore technology...it doesn't matter, someone will always cry.

Pardon me, but why is this an "issue?"  Diandra Asbatty looks good in a bikini.  I didn't see any gun held to her head.  Let the girl do what she wants to do and get on with living folks.  (now had she NOT looked hot in a bikini it might be an "issue" but that isnt' the case.)

It's not crying, it's just odd and funny.  You have to point out that it's funny how televised sports works.  It could have less to do with the actual sport and more to do with how sexy the person can look holding the product they are selling in the commercial.

But, you need money to put things on TV and if that is how you have to make money...  Well there you go.
