Did your league cancel the season?
« on: March 30, 2020, 10:13:36 AM »
Ohio is in shut down mode. Where I bowl many leagues are cancelling the season (about 5-6 weeks left). I haven't heard on my Sunday trio league which is my only league but I would be fine finishing during the summer but I doubt we will.

What are your leagues doing?

Slightly offtopic, but drawing the correlation.

Seeing that they just called off Wimbledon this year in the UK, which is a first that I can ever remember (it may have been called off in WW1 or WW2), should the USTA decide to call off the US Open, that may speak volumes as to how the beginning of next year's bowling season will go. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a delayed start to next year, let alone any tour stops. While the women are unfortunately used to this from having that 10+ year drought from the PWBA folding in 2003, the only time I've ever seen the men's tour stopped for anything was for the bomb threat that was called in at the bowling alley while the finals were being aired live.

Again, if what's going on in the tennis world is any indication, the USBC, PBA, PWBA, TeamUSA, and WTBA have a lot to think about.

Agree. I'm surprised the USBC hasn't just canned this year's tournament already. My group rescheduled, but shortly after that the OC got pushed from May 1 to May 23rd.

I know it's a lot of lost $$, but the right thing to do is just cancel it and move it to next year.  Too much travel uncertainty for all of us.

I'm waiting for nationals (open and women's) to be cancelled as well.

I've got a feeling that the national tournaments supply a good chunk of the USBC operating income each year. I'm not sure they can stand a hit that large.

think about it this way.. Should those who tried out for TeamUSA and made it have to re-try out because they weren't able to make it to any tournaments for this? For example, QubicaAMF World Cup? Should that get cancelled this year, should those that won the Trials have to try out again? they would have been screwed out of their spot for this, through no fault of their own, TeamUSA's own, WTBA's own, and AMF's own..

Sometimes life isn't fair. Ask the NCAA basketball teams who were going to make the field of 64. Or USA Summer Olympic athletes from 1980.

So yep, next year is another season. The best at that time should have to prove themselves to be so.

Yesterday, our Governor extended stay at home orders to the whole state until 4/30, but at the same time closed all non-essential businesses "indefinitely".  So even if we are "released" on 4/30 [which is highly unlikely], businesses like the bowling center are in limbo until told otherwise.  The Governor basically said he would give non-essential businesses 48-hours notice for when they could reopen in the future, to give them time to clean, restock, notify/schedule staff, etc.  How kind of him.

I bowl in Ohio also.  I have a feeling the 2 leagues I am in will vote to end or continue once the stay at home order is lifted.

I say end them now and hand out the prize fund...... see you in the fall.  ITS GOLF SEASON.

Even for the Olympics, it is assumed there will be additional try-outs for 2021.  It is unfortunate, but it is what it is.
