The Push Away

So many different styles which work for so many good bowlers.

Which way works for you?

Over the bar, hinge, etc....

Does a round object have sides? I say yes, pizza has triangles..

Jay, I had used the "over the bar" push away, but for me, it was not effective. Moving the ball slightly upwards as I extended my arms caused my arm swing to be a bit "loopy." Moving the arms slightly downward on the push away gave my arm swing a "rounded" shape and helped me get the ball into the arm swing a bit quicker. The "rounded" approach improved my timing and actually increased ball speed.

There is a great video from the USBC library that I will locate and post here later today.

Here is the video: http://www.usbcbowlingacademy.com/video/bowling-form-during-the-push-away-005663/

The video is only 2 minutes, but it has some tips that may help.

It is a matter of personal preference. I personally do much better with a pushaway. With the dropaway,I tend to
lead with my shoulders at the beginning of the backswing in an effort to generate decent swing momentum, causing me to "chase" the ball. I have exceptionally long arms, which
equates to a slower swing cycle. Using a pushaway keeps my feet a little slower and much more in sync with the natural speed of my armswing.

In some cases they held the ball higher up, but watch the elbow in the approach just perfect hinge, simple.

…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

There are so many "hall of fame" push away it's amazing.

I started out with over the bar push away, then I tried the hinge type....... the only push away that works for me starts a little late, going forward towards the foul line, without a full extension of the arm. I guess it's almost like a hinge, but with the hinge the ball just drops or very little to no forward motion, right?
