pin under fingers
« on: May 11, 2008, 04:03:07 PM »
Since they installed new synthetic lanes I have had problem kicking out the 10th pin( right hander with lower rev rate). I am more than willing to try this layout as all my present balls have pin above fingers.

My question is: should I specify a certain pin length? In other words, is a ball with 2 in. pin better for this or one with a 3 in. pin? I am hoping to get the ball to rev up faster.

Thanks!

Without a PAP, it is hard to give you a more detailed answer. But basically, try to get a 1-2" pin ball. With the pin under the fingers, you should see an overall smoother breakpoint reaction, more of an arc than a skid/flip reaction.
A longer pin will result in excessive weight in the thumb area, maybe even make it hard to get the ball legal at all, and if you swing out the CG towards your PAP for a smoother breakpoint, you will avoid a weight hole (or at least reduce its weight).

What equipment are you currently throwing?  Pearl?  Solid?  Particle?  Is it dull or shiny?  Also, how do you throw the ball?  Do you come up the back of the ball more and get end-over-end roll, or do you tend to spin it more and get more sideways rotation?  You also mentioned lower rev rate, but said nothing about your ball speed.  What part of the lane are you playing currently?  Before getting another ball, you may be able to kick out the 10 with just some small changes to your ball surface or your release or how you are playing the lanes.

10 pin...you must understand where you are hitting in the pocket.

Pin under fingers is usually a very smooth mild low flare drilling that for a small hand bowler tends to bring your ball into the pocket without much swing and must have good backend for the low rev bowler to work.

I am a low rev bowler with 15 mph speed that can't stand left and swing the ball right because of my low revs and "Pin Under Drillings" with the pin ranging from under RF to under MF are second to none for me. I need help in the mid-lane to get the ball reving and the pin under drillings do the best job the best job of doing this for me at doing this. Higher torque balls with 2" to 3" Pins work best for me.

Very helpful answers! Thanks a lot!

I think this site was getting maintenance done and thus the delay in replies. I am in no big hurry( lol!) since I just discovered how to get one of my balls to work pretty good. My specs are close to Brick's so I just feel I "have to" try a pin under layout before I die......

Thanks agian!
