Time to wait before moving to new deal
« on: December 12, 2009, 11:31:17 AM »
How long do you wait on a reply for pictures before moving on to a new deal? I had a trade deal and sent my pictures but have not received his picture of the ball. He was to send it on the 10th. He did read my message to him on the 10th asking for him to let me know when he sent them, Still no picture. He has not read the last pm I sent to him, saying that I hoped I did not miss them in my junk folder. I have sent him an email today saying that I needed to know asap if the deal is still good, because I have a buyer interested in the ball.   When do I move on and sell it to the next person?

Move on... If he did not respond within 24 hours, he must not be interested anymore.. He should have told you that though..

I'd give him until at least tomorrow, the 13th, since you've already waited until the 12th to ask, to see if he has a valid reason for delaying his response to your pictures. Anything can have happened to him or his family or his PC to distract him temporarily.

I wish we had some simple rules to go by for transactions so that everyone understood where they stand. I have lost deals too because i have had people tell me that they want something and then I don't hear from them again or I hear from them 2-3 wks later. My personal opinion is if I go to the trouble to answer questions or send pics the other person should have the courtesy to at least come back and say no not interested, not at this time or something.

I know there are times when I have not responded back but I know I should have and am going to try harder in the future because it is very frustrating to wait not knowing what someone intends to do.My $.02

True, of course, but the human factor (I don't mean selfishness or discourtesy) and circumstances always enter into the equation.

In this case, while 48 hours seems plenty, it is also true that something MAY have prevented his replying. Since it's a weekend, I'd say, only in this case, give him until some time during the day on Monday (Noon?) before taking a new direction. Normally, if you were in the middle of communications, say messages 2x a day, I'd say 48 hours was plenty, before pursuing other avenues.

Basically, do whatever your conscience says you should.

If it was me and I was trying to make a buck, make the money when you can.  If you wait your buyer isn't for sure.  If you have a for sure deal make the deal...It's a win loose situation.  One guys is happy one is pissed.

On the other hand if you  have to waist and your not in it for profit purpose sit on and make a happy customer a great deal.  Just remember if  you keep on doing it, it will become habbit and you might end up waisting more time then it's worth.

He ended up backing out. Said the ball that he was going to trade saved him in too many situations.... then why offer it up? Anyway... try again next time.
