Change thumb Pitch
« on: September 08, 2009, 03:20:32 PM »
Can you change the thumb pitch without redrilling the thumb. My current pitch is 0 and 0. I want to put some reverse pitch in the thumb but just maybe a 1\8 or a 1\4. Please let me know.

Thanks

If you re-slug, I'm sure you could make a 1/8 change with the same size.  For a 1/4 change you might need to insert a bigger slug.  It's a good idea to ask the driller first.

If you run a bit down the same hole with the new pitch settings on the jig, you would end up with the back of your thumbhole at the new pitch, but the front of your thumbhole would remain the same.  This would result in your thumbhole getting larger and larger the further down you go.

I suppose you could rectify that with a ton of bowlers tape, putting more in the lower portion of the hole than in the top.  Hardly seems worth the effort though.  Just get the thumbhole refilled or put a new slug in it.  It'll save you a lot of trouble and it will fit properly.

They could just fill the hole with plug up high enough to not dam it.  This would require a day to set, but they wouldn't have to cut it down or sand it.
