Most embarrassing moment at the bowling center
« on: December 02, 2006, 10:07:44 AM »
I went bowling this morning. My favorite and most comfortable pair of jean shorts don't exactly fit me anymore since I've lost weight.   Actually, to keep from looking like a fake gangsta, I should have worn a belt but I didn't. So they hung low a bit.

Well, a few frames into my warm up, I started to roll my usuall ball. As my made my approach and delivery I heard....  RRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIPPPPPPP!!!!

I blew out the crotch and inseam of my shorts.

But the most embarrassing part was what I had on underneath the shorts...

I gathered up my gear and walked out with my roller bag behind me.

Dont worry about it, lol, Ive ripped SO many pants that i cant even count.  Every single time i ripped my pants, it was at the crotch, & during the first few games of a tournament.  It got to the point that at every tournament, i kept an extra pair or 2 of pants in my car.  I think it had to do with sweating on my legs, & the pants sticking a bit.  As u go into the slide, the pants stick to your legs & have no place to go.  After a few frames of this, the pants just give out.

It sucks, but when this used to happen to me, i was wearing tighty whities.

I know this feeling all too well.

I was at a junior tournament around 5-6 years ago.  This was during my "dye my hair different, odd colors" phase.  I had just dyed my hair blue the night before with a different brand that I never heard of before, but was recommended (Never use cheaper hair dye I found later).

Getting to the tournament.

I generally sweat more than others while bowling.  So, we get a few games in and I start sweating.  All of a sudden, I wipe my head with my hand and see that I'm sweating blue! (St. Louis Blues fans bleed blue... I sweat it :-P)  So, at this point, I had a head that was blotted blue until I got a break to wash my head in the bathroom.

Moving on.

I'm bowling in the fifth game of a five game block.  Early in the game, I get up to pick a 10 pin and throw.  Now, some of you know that I have a high backswing, but back then, it was past 12:00 at it's peak.  I come back from picking the spare and a guy I'm bowling with says "that hole in your shirt just got a LOT bigger."  I feel down to get a general idea of how big it is...  Let's just say that I didn't even feel shirt when I checked it.  It went from the middle of the armpit area all the way down to my side (a good 8" rip in the shirt.)  So, I go to the tournament director to see if they have safety pins.  All they have... good ol' fashion grey duct tape. (OUCH)  Let's just say that that was quite the painful experience.  Whenever I would raise the ball... RIPPPP.

Game ended, I walk out quick, buy a shirt at a local store and come back to finish the tournament, but that day will never be forgotten.  Plus, the fact that the blue hair dye eventually turned to sea green after a few washes.  Not a fun couple of weeks on that one.

I bowled a tournament once with a guy who blew out his jeans like that.  Trouble was, he was going commando.  Bowled the whole day with a towel around him.

As of late, everytime I get up to bowl I feel like I embarrass myself.

When I was a teenager back in the 80's (when tight jeans were all the rage) I was bowling with Lisa Wagner and Amleto Monacelli when the inseam of my pants decided to rip. Needless to say my game suffered as my trailing leg never left the ground after that... That evening I was fortunate enough to go to dinner with them, at which point Lisa asked me what happened to my game that day. Embarassing, embarassing, embarassing..

Ah, well I guess the most embarassing thing I've done in a bowling center was last year when I was bowling for position in the bowling team and I decided to use a new pair of bowling shoes that I just got. Making a long story short, lets just say the sole was very slick and I ended up falling on my rear HARD lol. Needless to say, I made that spare even though I fell, but all the other bowling teams and my teammates that day had quite a laugh. Wearing clown shoes during a JBT is also up there in the list.

Oh, I also have a bonehead play of the lanes to give myself. Quite a few years ago we were bowling the Lilac. I was bowling well, so around the 5 frame of the third game I decided to walk to the other side of the house to check out my bracket standings. I was in most of them still (something like 14 of 15), so I wandered back and found the pair was waiting for me. So I rushed up to throw my shot. Well, I forgot to talk off my shoe cover and ended up just past the arrows. It was as painful landing as you can imagine. I rolled over on my back and look back and see everyone staring at me.

I walk back, my teammate asks if I'm ok, and as soon as I said yes the entire place erupted into laughter. Sigh. And no, I didn't win one bracket.

I blew out the seam on a pair of pants in the 2nd frame of the 1st game one night.  i tucked a towel into the front of my pants to keep my junk from being exposed.  It was extremely funny having to explain all night why I had the towel in my pants.

For those of you that have thrown a shot with your protective shoe cover on --

IF you carefully mark the position of your SLIDE foot when you set up, I don't see how you could miss seeing that the cover was on.  --  JohnP

As I went through my approach and delivered the ball during a scratch league with all the premier area bowlers.......a dryer sheet fell out of the pants leg and was waiting for me at about my second step as I turned to walk back,. Many "fun"comments came my way to be sure.     Al

okay my greatest embrassing moment came from a louisville tournament...well the apporaches were slicker than normal, and thats never good for me...anyway, i threw a ball and fouled...i said oh wel and spared, then the next ball i threw my feet went flying from underneath me and my head smashed on the foul line to hear the buzzer go off...i got up to everyone pointing and some laughing. my head hurt so bad...well i spared that up...then threw another gutter spare...needless to say after that i lined up a bit better and finished with a 228
