Do you think there is an advantage drilling a strong ball weak?
« on: February 11, 2018, 09:27:16 AM »
I always seem to have a gap between a medium/lite oil ball, not that I can
t get to the pocket but carry is usually so so. I really have my eye on the hyper fusion but I know it will be too strong on the backend for me. anyway this video has me thinking https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSXEhXiN2bU
I have the Hyroad Nano,Street fight,(Thunder Flash urethane, Avlanche pearl urethane.)
The Nano is strong, has a place. the Street fight works better with some surface or else it's too strong on the back and the urethane's are urethane. I've found they are mostly hit or miss. the Avalanche is a good spare/dry ball.
So what is your thoughts on drilling a strong ball weak?
The harder I try the harder they fall

I don't know that it would be "weak" as the layout used would be more of a "Control Layout" front to back of the lane, as the cover still influences the motion or performance more than the layout.

Meaning that you still would need to have enough oil on the lane to use the ball of choice with it still retaining energy at the pins.

Ofcourse. But is there an advantage to drilling up a strong asymmetrical as opposed to  a weaker core ball with roughly the same cover?

On a related note, could a person drill a weak ball with a low flare layout, 1-2" pin to pap, and preserve a shot for a long time without blowing up the lanes? Considering doing this with something like a new cherry vibe for wooden lanes. And what about going with a really long pin?

IF the covers were the same, the weaker cored ball should cost less............. typically higher end balls have enhancements to both coverstock formulation as well as cores.....

Possibly may have better carry with the higher end ball, but it is something I have not done, so couldn't comment on using personal experience.

I usually use very similar layout on my equipment, match up better with symmetric cores, and just change balls as surface and desired reaction dictate

Surface matters. It will blow up the heads if you use too much surface, then when you migrate in, you're going to have to ball up.

And this is the crux, better carry and better control over the weak stuff.
