Title: Does anyone on here bowl?
Post by: daves123 on October 23, 2020, 07:33:57 AM
I hear lot of talk on here about bowling but no one ever posts a weekly  high score or high series on what lane condition with what ball.
Not that anyone cares but but I've been having very good results so far this year with a motiv alpha jackal on a house shot. Last night shot 203 226 223 for 652 series.
I've used this ball exclusively this year so far and my average after 18 games is 208.6 which is up from last year's 188.9

It’s definitely different this year, every other lane, social distancing and the morons who don’t follow common sense rules. Too many high fives, lack of mask wearing, and bad overall bowling alley hygiene. With that said averaging 212 predominantly with a Sonic IQ at 3k grit finish in an old house. Looking forward to bowling in other houses once this clears up a bit.

I do.

On my Monday night league I'm averaging 213 through 6 weeks on Kegel Chromium.  It's a challenge pattern and I've found my most success throwing the Honey Badger Extreme Solid and if they break down enough (which is rare) the HB Revival.

On my Friday night league, a THS on ancient wood, they do play different pair to pair.  I'm averaging 231 through 6 weeks.  I've been pretty much throwing only my Electrify Pearl and my 900 Global Boost.

I'm not really a FIGJAM guy so I don't post what I shoot b/c I can't imagine why anyone would care....

Bowling again here.  League switched from a sport shot league to using Kegel Challenge patterns.  Bowl two weeks on a pattern then switch.  So far I have bowled on Big Ben (44'), Tungsten (39'), Beaten Path V2 (41'), Broadway V2 (37'), and Stonehenge (40').  Shot 1 very nice series and 2 horrible ones.  Using a little bit of everything since the patterns play so different.  Lane #1 Tsunami, Motiv Venom Shock, Storm Phase II, Brunswick Strike King...

Bowling a sport league; not sure the exact pattern right now.  43 ft long; over 30 units of oil.

using my Axiom with good results so far.  tried my Nuclear Cell when axiom started too early.  the Nuclear was the wrong choice.  next week, if I need a ball other than the axiom, it will be my IQ tour nano pearl that I try first

while mostly happy with scores; no honor scores or anything worth bragging about except one game of 245.  but that was the last pattern, Chichen Itza.  my PhysiX was the ball for me on that pattern

At least your center is doing every other lane and social distancing.  Our center is full-on for leagues, two teams per pair, no empty lanes in between, no social distancing.  We also have the people doing the high fives, hugging, sharing food, 95% of people not wearing masks, etc.  There have been a growing number of people voicing concerns about the situation to the center, but they ultimately don't really care.  It is what it is.  I go in, bowl, and mind my own business.

With that being said, bowling only one league per week.  No practice, no tournaments.  I am choosing to limit my time at centers until things improve (our state is currently spiking and daily cases are almost back up to the peak back in April.)  Averaging 218 with a mix of DV8 and Brunswick stuff depending on the shot.  Usually some sort of house shot on AMF synthetic lane surface, but the length and volume of the shot varies from week to week.

Pretty much believe we all bowl, who are members here, thank you very much. Thankfully most haven't gone and done like other online bowling forums, where members post a readout from their scores or belly up to the bar with posting their scores, series for everyone to ohhh and ahhh about. If you need that kind of participation from others, I can relate to you other forums which do so.

I probably won't bowl this year due to school, so in that aspect Covid-19 hasn't been an issue for me.

I hope to get time to practice before Las Vegas next summer for the USBC Open Championships.

One thing that has been good about the Covid situation(for me), it a reasonable excuse to not do all the #(*%$!@# high-fiving, dapping, fist-bumping, hand slapping, etc.

No matter what happens with bowling, I'm done with that bullshit.

Open bowling only, and it's a horror show since I'm trying to stop grabbing and twisting the ball, just roll it.

Too much variance from house to house and bowler to bowler to really be able to compare scores, but yes, I bowl.

Been using a plethora of equipment, but to no avail. I am holding at 201 avg right now, but very "hit & miss". 650 one week, 550 the next.

Balls I have tried in the five weeks we've bowled:
1. 900Global Shadow Ops
2. Pyramid Pathogen Plague pearl
3. DV8 Tactics Control
4. IQ Emerald
5. Track Amethyst Kinetic
6. Roto Grip Hyper Cell Fused
7. Brunswick Black Quantum
8. Roto Grip Hustle AU
9. Brunswick Rhino (Newer, reactive model)
10. Track Red Paradox (Needs surface adjustment. Too early)
11. Storm Electrify pearl

The lanes have been very inconsistent so far. One week, my Pyramid ball hooks and hits, the next week, it won't even turn the corner and I leave 7's and 5-7's unless I switch to a more aggressive cover, like reactive, but then you have to be psychic to predict what surface you're going to need on it.

One week, my IQ Emerald was great. The next, it was hooking in the heads. Week after that, it wouldn't even wrinkle.

Now, I know I've gotten older, and much less consistent myself, but I'm not so far gone that it should make THIS much difference from week to week.

Hopefully, they settle on a pattern soon, lock it in, and then leave it alone.

I have been saying the same thing about my center for the past 25 years  ;D

I like that pattern not real short and s high enough totsl oil volu I can get away with throwing a reactive at least early In the match.

In my area, centers are open and leagues are in full force. However, none of the league or tournament bowlers are wearing masks, social distancing, discouraging high fives, etc. Two of the bowling centers are within the city limits where a mask mandate is in effect, but somehow bowlers are allowed to take them off once they arrive at their lanes. So I decided back in August to sit out this season until the COVID situation improves to a level that's comfortable and safe to compete again. In the meantime I practice on my own occasionally to keep the muscle memory in check.

Since mid-March, when leagues from last season paused with the lockdown, then subsequently voted to end early, I've only gone bowling three times. Each time I go, I wear my mask the entire time I'm inside the center, even on the approach. I think how the pros wear their masks and fist bump, forearm bump, and elbow bump is the way to go. They're setting a great example of how to bowl as safely as possible and still be able to compete at a high level. I just wished the fellow bowlers in my area followed suit. Either they're all too selfish, don't care about everyone's health and safety, or both.

And just this week I learned that one of the leagues I typically bowl in just voted to postpone the next two weeks of competition due to several bowlers testing positive for COVID. In addition, the local infection numbers are spiking to the highest we've seen since the lockdown. Coincidence? I think not. I hate to see anyone get infected with COVID. If they all wore masks and practiced social distancing and limited contact, perhaps it could've been prevented or at the very least not spread to others within the league.

I'm bowling in three leagues! One in VA. and two in Maryland! We were are masks all the time even when bowling. Our lanes are social distanced as well. We have a pair of empty lanes between each pair that is being bowled on! We are required to keep our masks on, all the time, except when eating!

By now, we've all gotten used to it and it's no problem at all. Last night on a light oil condition, I shot 232-184-246 with a DV8 Grudge the first game. A DV8 Vandal Strike the second game, and a Radical Counter Attack solid the third game!

Good to hear that some are back bowling.
My post wasn't geared towards pride but to give my poor example of a ball review of a ball I just got.
I'm old and not a very good bowler but it's fun when you find something that works for you.

Still haven't been bowling since Covid hit, but I suck anyway, bowling on sport patterns so I have nothing to share.  My average sucks, but my handicap rocks!!!
Just say no to THS.

Yup, don't really talk about league ever anymore, averaging my typical mid 220s.

Have only bowled a couple tournaments since the 'rona hit. They are starting to be more frequent in my area so i'll be making some trips soon to participate now that i've got time (Sept-Oct is rough as I help my family farm on top of the day job).

My biggest change is I haven't had any desire to drill anything new, which is a stark change, I usually buy a boderline obnoxious amount of equipment and outside of drilling a Desert Tank when it came out I haven't drilled anything since before the 'rona shutdown.

Bowling a Monday league, 4 person mixed, ths. Have to wear masks all the time except when eating/drinking, and your team is on one pair and the opposing team is on the next pair.  Seems too much like open bowling, no sense of “competition “, but it’s this or nothing. Only bowlers allowed, no watchers at all. The house is definitely skimping on oil now, probably saving a few bucks. Shot low 600s the last couple of weeks using a polished Crux one week and a polished Sync the other.  Also practicing 1 morning a week.

Bowling Monday night scratch trios, that has turned into doubles and Wednesday night 4 man teams with the other team on next pair. Must wear masks at all times except while eating or drinking. Averaging same as last year 215 on house shots. I like that your basically done in just over an hour, but wearing the mask is hot and uncomfortable, but at least we are BOWLING!

Bowling one night a week on a THS. The league had put into effect some things like no touching anyone's equipment other than your own. One team sits at the table up by the lanes and the other sits at the high top area at the back of the pair. Masks were optional and nobody outside of the league bowlers in the bowling area. The first night, spectators showed up and no league official addressed it, so that was out the window as was separating the bowlers on each pair. Quite disappointing. There is no handshaking with the opponents afterward. The one thing for me and I think for me and many others is that it seems like we're just going through the motions. Very little excitement at the lanes and not really looking forward to each week. I think between Covid19 and the political atmosphere in this country the enjoyment of activities has diminished greatly. Most people still go out to eat or to bars, but it's more of avoiding crowds and little social contact outside whomever your with. It's a sad thing but I think the way people look at each other now over the things I listed, we are doomed to become a country like many others around the world where social interaction is not a thing!

the nice thing were I bowl; our proprietor has actually kicked people out for not following the COVID rules.

Like others have said, we have a limited number of bowlers per pair; masks required unless eating/drinking and no spectators.

there was a person that showed up, said they they wouldn't wear a mask; "you can't make me".  and claimed to have a doctors note that said that he had a medical condition that would be aggravated if he wore a mask.  then proceed to inform everyone that no; he would not show the note because it contained personal medical information.

Our Proprietor gave him the choice; wear a mask or don't bowl. and he stuck to his guns.  The staff does their best to ensure people are wearing masks.  only a few folks seem to to try to push the rules on this.

we are doing pretty well in that regard, in my opinion

I bowl once a week in a 3 person challenge pattern league but unfortunately have an elbow injury from baseball so I haven't actually bowled yet this season.  I did receive an injection in the elbow last week and am cleared to bowl this Friday although I'm not sure the elbow is ready yet...we will see come Friday.
