Does bowling 300 make the game harder for us?
« on: November 13, 2003, 09:05:24 AM »
Mentally harder that is. When starting out our focus is on tryin to improve our high game, its like a benchmark. A PB that can be attained in 1 game. But once a 300 is bowled, a new high game cannot be reached. So the focus shifts to new high 3 game block. Something that is again... harder to attain because it means bowling above our previous peak for 3 whole games.

I know i set my high series record for myself in the series that i bowled 300... and have never beaten it since. Its not that ive stopped bowling 700's, it just seems near impossible for me to break my magic number. My set is 764, so i need to bowl a 765, which is a 255 average. I can easy enough bowl 1 255, but the task of 3 games over that in a row.... very daunting to say the least.

Personally i would love to have my high game back at 279 like it was, just tryin to make the magic 300. That was a thrill that was there every game, something that i could acheive that i had never done befor, no matter how bad i had bowled in the game before....

I know that goals are ment to better us... but once we reach one, and set new ones... arnt we just making it harder for ourselves to feel the sence of acheivment and worth, which we all want??

Good luck and high scoring

I agree with you, Bones.
It took me many years to shoot my first (and only) 300 game.
It was incredible to find out that I actually could do it, and now I just wanna do it again.
I just shot 811 a couple of months ago, and since then, I have had more 700 series than I think I had all last season.

Someone once told me that I would never be a 200 average bowler until I started thinking that 200 was NOT a high score. And they were right. When I raised my interpretation of "high" to 225, I quickly started averaging close to 200.

Last year my book average was 220 - exceptional year. This year, I don't even think something is AVERAGE until it's better than 220. A good game? Now it's at least 235 in my mind.
