A name for my pair of lanes ???
« on: December 15, 2005, 02:16:25 AM »
You guys have some great ideas for names , so here is where I need your help. I am constructing a building to house my old collector items and to set up a pair of Brunswick lanes from 1912 removed from a church in Indiana.  They have semi auto pinsetters ( a pinboy fills the rack with pins by hand and pulls a rope to drop and raise the deck) and above ground ball returns with original ball caddies and masking units. So I am looking for a retro name that will also go well with my 50's Coke machines, Seeburg jukebox, Bally pinball, and even an area for my pair of 67 and 69 Camaro z-28's.  I will also have an area for a pro-shop and possibly a small booth style and bar soda shop. I hope to hold small birthday parties, church outings, etc. plus have a place to watch a new proshop client roll a few before and after drilling equipment.  Let the names begin !!!    thanks, Al

Well, I had a couple of ideas. But none of them as good as Memory Lanes. Awesome. Be sure and post some pics!

Great responses !  Memory Lanes is awfully cool...Some local help included...
Al's Retro Alley ( they liked the Al aka "Al's Diner" )

           Pinboy Required

But memory lanes is awful impressive....Can't offer a ball or anything quite yet as I'm not set up to buy yet, but it sure would be fun to have a bunch of you over here in Ohio when I get them done...of course we would have to bowl a while...set pins...bowl...set pins, but I think that might be half the fun !!   Thanks everyone...keep 'em comin if you think of some more,   Al

I would not mind driving down to set pins one day!
Sounds like you have a nice collection of goodies.

Great idea! Have people who were around back in 1912 bowl the first game! It would make news! "Gertrude's Strike Causes Stroke!", "Senior Citizens Strike Back", or...oh the name of the place. I like Memory Lanes too. I thought of a few of my own, but none that self-explanatory and metaphorical.

BTW are you going to have people bowling on the lanes from 1912?
or are you going to have those for show and just have other lanes for regular bowling?

PinkillerNick,

BTW are you going to have people bowling on the lanes from 1912?

These 1912 lanes are the ones we will actually bowl on. The only problem I am thinking of curing is that with above ground returns, the ball caddy extends all the way to the foul line and is of course right in line with the center gutter cap...ten pins for righties on the right lane and sevens for lefties on the left will be interesting...I have thought of moving the returns down the outside of each lane and spacing them well away from the gutter line but then the "pinboy" (probably me most of the time), would have to run side to side when setting for the pair.  I think I will just put down a correct amount of lane oil(unlike our local desert house) which will help with the tight ball return.

Thanks for all the great comments...estimated time of completion is right at about 1 year.   What a job it was getting these buggers disassembled and brought up a flight of stairs in this Fort Wayne Lutheran Church.   The lanes were the worst, cutting them in 20' sections (1000 lbs.) loading them on a flat bed, hauling them home and temporarily storing them and stackin in a different building than the future "lanes".  Gonna be a huge project, but then I never have simple ideas.....I'll keep you updated as the roof goes up, Thanks  Al

lushleague,    Where is this old establishment located...If it is not to far from here in Ohio I wouldn't mind checking it out....My lanes were operational when I disassembled, as the church had school kids using them for recess and gym activity, but would be great to see some in "action".    thanks, Al

P.S.   I recently talked to the contact person that sold me the lanes and the kids miss bowling on these lanes so much that now during gym they have to bus the kids to a local house so they can bowl..!!  Probably would have been cheaper to add on to the church building for the extra classrooms and left the alleys in place.

Cristofori,  I have been asking a few local people to write me a short story describing their experiences setting pins.  I would love to have you e-mail or pm me a story of pinboy times. Or you can post it right here also. This goes for any one that would be willing to take the time to share your pinboy experiences.  I plan to start a notebook with the stories I get .  Thanks to all,     Al       e-mail is   alzgarvin@hotmail.com
