Step :Ladder 800 shot last night
« on: February 04, 2011, 07:02:31 AM »
Garry Campbell shot games of 265, 290, 299 for a 854 series last night at Golden Pin Lanes in Tucson, Arizona.  It was a 4 game format, and topped it off with a 278 game and finished off with a 1132 series.  He was throwing a Columbia Scout Reactive.

To my knowledge, this would be the second highest Step-ladder 800 ever shot in USBC History.

My congratulations to him on his outstanding series.

I had never heard the term step-ladder 800 before, let alone realize that there was a record book entry for it.

You have heard of the Desert Bowler magazine in Arizona, the front cover had a gentleman from Phoenix shooting a 277,278,279 with a 834 series, and they reconized him as having the second highest stepladder 800 ever recorded. That was until Garry shot his.  So I guess you can take it for what its worth, still an amazing accomplishment.  I believe Tom Jordan was high with a 298, 299, 300.

I have heard of and read Desert Bowling newpaper, but the last one I saw was the Nov 2009 issue.  Our center, Desert Lanes, closed in Jan 2010 and just re-opened Oct 2010.  They haven't received any issues since the re-opening.

How does 265-290-299 qualify as a step ladder?  Because each game is higher than the last?  I always thought a step ladder was each game one pin higher than the previous like the others mentioned (250-251-252...).

A step ladder is 1 pin higher each game.   If a step ladder was simply a higher game, I would have the record before this guy did.   268, 279, 299 - 846

There are plenty of those type of series in the history of the sport.

I think you guys are right, I was thinking step ladder, meaning game by game, but the 1 pin more per game does make more sense.  Anyways, it was great bowling on his part.

Four-game series, highest

Open

1,198 Tom Jordan, Union, N.J., March 7, 1989 (300, 299, 300, 299)

1,177 Jay Diamond, Schenectady, N.Y., April 16, 2005

1,169 Arnie Goldman, Allen Park, Mich., July 19, 2004

1,168 Michael Greene, Miami, Sept. 17, 2000

1,167 Chris Riga, Allentown, Pa., May 20, 1992

Gollick's 1179 has not been added yet....

I could not find any sort of official record for the step ladder. However, if there is one, Tom Jordan has that covered.
