Kegel Challenge pattern: BEATEN PATH
« on: December 06, 2009, 10:45:35 AM »
Just curious as to how this plays???  this is the pattern that is going to be put out for the Michigan State Tourny.....  I know one house has Synthetics and i think the other has wood, but not sure.....

I've done sport shots before, but not the challenge patterns from Kegel.....

And we do get fresh oil before each shift

Shouldn't play too hard. Should be between a sport shot and a THS in difficulty. Where it will play will probably depend more on the track area of the house.

Not saying it will be easy....just not that flat of a pattern so if you are lined up correctly you should be able to give yourself a little tug room and a little room outside. It is similar to a THS just a little less volume in the middle and a little more outside which will make it tighter than a THS. It will still be a challenge but should be playable and not be a battle of just making spares. In length it is close to what most house shots are as well.

I bowl on this pattern in league actually. The lane surface is pretty beat up old wood. It can be tough at times on that lane surface. But it still has it capabilities to have a bigger set. It can be pretty multi-angled. I found my best breakpoint was 8-9 down lane. Just have less pull and more hang than normal house shot. Some nights there is more hang and hook, and some nights its a tab bit easier. I found best success using a Cell Pearl going from bout 14 to 8-9 down lane. Just keep yourself out of trouble, use controllable angles, and if carry gets bad use some release adjustments to get the ball through pins differently. I think I am 22nd high in average (32 team 4 person teams)at 197. Ken Abner is in the lead at 220. Every pin in this league is earned.

ive played on this in a no tap tourney, our house is typicaly dry short 37'

so it showed real heavy to most playing,im low rev med speed and what worked for me was my cell pearl out and in  and was killing the pins great carry.

kegel and the people posted are correct it is kind a *groove* pattern, once you find it your golden good luck

I watched a high school tournament on Saturday that was using this pattern.  The surface was Brunswick Pro Anvil.  The pattern looked pretty difficult.  Anything outside of ten was out of bounds.  The best breakpoint was twelve.  Out of 34 boys teams, there was only 1 700.  The top 8 made the all tournament team.  The 8th spot was 588.

Ditto on what CPA saw as we were both coaching teams in the tourney. Our team started out right going up 8 with surface. This was good for about 3/4 of the first game and then it was into the 12-15 board area with out getting it right early. It was a good shot to teach our boys on as they couldn't just chuck it right to the friction all day like one of our league matches.

Yskes,

Both houses are synthetic for the Michigan State USBC Tournament.  Northway Lanes has old Brunswick Anvilane synthetics, and Sherman Bowling Center has the Brunswick Pro-Anvilanes, both centers operate with a Kegel Machine, but not sure if they'll use the house machines to oil the Beaten Path.  Both houses are pay and spray houses when they use their house patterns, Northway of a longer and heavier volume, and Sherman of a medium length and medium volume, so you get the idea of where the tracks are in each center.  Both centers should yield plenty of good scores on this non typical house condition pattern, just by the fact carry is nuts good in both houses, I don't care what the local whiner league hacks in Muskegon say, I know what the good bowlers from across the mitten state say about these houses.

Yskes, the other guys you are bowling with have a pretty good idea of lane play.  They may not be rolling the ball the best that day, but I know one of them prides himself on reading how the lanes are playing.  I think together we can formulate a game plan.

If at all possible we should try to meet up.  Maybe roll a weekend tourney to get to know each other...what do you think?
