ELKS National Tournament
« on: March 27, 2021, 01:55:39 PM »
Any ELK Members on here? Anyone going to the Elks National Tournament in Troy, Michigan?

And just for fun, what's your lodge number, how many years have you been an ELK? and are you or have you been an officer.

For me, I belong to Baraboo, WI Lodge #688 and I will be Exalted Ruler this year. I've been a member for 15 years now.

New York, #2175. 5yr member. I've never had the desire to be an officer but congrats to being E.R.! It's tough getting the time to participate at the lodge a lot but i do enjoy working our bingo nights.
Per bowling, you might be interested in checking out a nearby lodge. #1222. It's a cool, old building. And it's got four lanes in the basement.

Before we moved 3 years to our new lodge location, we had a 6 lane bowling alley in our old lodge in the basement. Those lanes were put in around 1945. A 300 was never rolled on those lanes. I'm not even sure a 800 series was thrown either. I loved bowling there and sure do miss it.

I bowl league at the house where the Elks is being held. Make sure you take some shiny/urethane equipment that can get down lane. Either the lane machine is malfunctioning or the house is trying to save money, but the amount of lane oil put down is not very much. The lanes change quickly and dry up fast. Be ready for the Gestapo. She will be all over you if you even think of lowering your mask. It's no longer fun to bowl there.
Balls: Motiv Jackal Ambush, Motiv Trident Abyss, Motiv Mythic Jackal, Motiv Trident Odyssey, Motiv Hydra and Motiv Plastic Jackal. All made in the USA.

I throw a 900 Global Shadow OPS, Badger Infused, and a Desert OPS. So I'm good on the Medium to dry side. Thank you for the info.
Even if you are on the approach you still have to have your mask on?

Kiefenstien, ABSOLUTELY. They will be all over you if you don't. I bowl leagues in 3 houses and only this one is going to that extreme.

I'd guess they're probably thinking, BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY. Sounds like they care for the well being of their patrons. To each establishment, their own rules. :)

I was looking at the Covid-protocols for the USBC Open tournament the other day. They are not allowing any spectators at the tournament venue and all participants must wear approved masks at all times. Even when bowling.

They do not allow clear face shields either as I have seen some around here use while bowling.

They must have done a heavy oil pattern for this tournament because they were really oily and out of bounds. Oil never dried up fast either. Nobody was wearing a mask when we were on the lanes.

We stopped bowling in it years back due to the Elks National Bowling Tournament being in direct violation of Grand Lodge. Seems They have "no" authorization for the use of the Name. A little history of the Tournament. It was started about 100 years back by a group of guys who went to the Elks offering to run a tournament for them, under the guidelines that both ALL bowlers would be Elks and the tournament would contribute a pre-assessed amount to Grand Lodge, first for the Veterans and later for ENF. Over 25 years back the tournament went rogue and since they are ALL paid personnel they needed more income. That's when began letting "non-members" bowl if they were spouses. At the same time they stopped paying Grand Lodge for use of the BPOE/Elks name and logo. Well since then things have gotten to the point where many winners in the past several years are not only not members but are not spouses either. (3 Local bowlers bowled in Huntington and at Clawson/Troy who have never set foot in a Elks Lodge) This information is also available through Grand Lodge. Think about this before you send that next $65 to them.
