What would your "B Game" be?
« on: September 05, 2012, 02:46:03 PM »
For those of us that have one way of throwing the ball. If you could develop a "B Game", what would it be?

Mine would be to develop a consistent release where I take almost all revs off the ball. Just let the ball do the work. I think as lanes transition this kind of style could be very deadly in competition.

Talkin' Trash!

TH,  I find out what I am bowling on first.  The pattern length and the ratio.  At that point I determine what the proper exit point is on the pattern.  I already know my lateral movement tendencies.  I will make the first shot and read the rack and the ball going off the back of the pin deck.  From there I adjust.  I am always adjusting as the conditions change.  The first shot is straight up the boards.  I then read and adjust.   Here is a typical process   House shot 39 ft pattern.  Exit point should be the 8 board at 39 feet.  I drift 2 to the left.  So I line up on 13 throw the ball.  My slide foot ends up on 15 ball goes over 8 at 39 feet.  Let's say it goes brooklyn.  I move my feet left 6 boards and angle my heel 1/2 board.  This should put me in the pocket and still exit over 8 at 39 ft.  As the night goes on I adjust to changes.  I adjust ball speed and timing by raising and lowering the ball.  Entry angle is changed with hand position.  Skid. hook and roll is adjusted by target distance length.  I use a combination of things taught by Joe Slowinski and Dick Ritger.  The system works equally well on house patterns and sport shots.

All I have is a B game!   :o

Seriously though, trying to go straight up the boards is my bane.

T300c,  Watching where and how my ball hits the pins tells me if I have the correct angle into the pocket and if I am finishing properly.  By watching it go off the pin deck I can determine if it is driving thru the pins.  This minimizes weak or overly strong hits.  For a long time I was prone to leaving a lot of 4 - 9's.  By doing this I have eliminated a lot of them.

It depends on what pattern I'm on.  Sometimes my B game becomes my A game.  For example, if I'm on a short pattern, I'm moving way outside, breaking the wrist and going up the boards.
