YOUR THOUGHTS ON MUTANT CELL
« on: March 02, 2011, 10:44:06 PM »
O.K. I want to start by saying i love Storm and Roto and use nothing else. I was wondering what other people felt about this ball. I thought it was the biggest P.O.S. i've seen in ten years. Wet sand, abralon, compound, polish didn't matter in my opinion i still had a P.O.S.

I think "biggest POS in 10 years" is a bit harsh, but I did not personally care for the Mutant Cell or MCP. The originals were much more versatile, and the Theory is much better as well.

Could it be it was drilled wrong for either you or the lanes conditions you were on?
Could it be that you might tried it on oil patterns not suitable for this ball?

I say that because a ton of people with varying styles used it on varying lane conditions with a lot of success in the areas where I bowled.

Almost no ball is a POS these days. All are more than usable for most styles on some lane condition with several drillings.  ANY ball may be inappropriate for your style or for the oil conditions you face. Many balls today are very sensitive to drillings, especially asymmetric cored balls with strong mass bias ratings.

It took a plug and redrill plus two million surface changes to figure out my Mutant Cell. It's simply a very condition-specific piece for me. It needs a good bit of head oil, as I expected, but it's much, much, MUCH stronger off the spot than I thought it would be. It really revs up fast and gives me a hook/set kind of reaction. The only use I get from it is when I need to really create a lot of angle on the back part of the lane on fresher patterns. It also seems to work better on wood lanes for some reason. But in any case, I can only get about one or two games use out of the ball per set before it needs to be put away because it requires so much oil in the front part of the lane. Once the shot starts to dry up, I have to switch to something else, period.

i totally disagree--- i have had 2 -- one polished with a 5x3 layout and another dull with a 4x4 layout. i had more success with the 4x4 layout ball.  i have scored very well with this ball. remember a lot of things come into play,  cover preparation, layout and the type of shot you bowl on, wood or synthetic lanes. some balls just match up better than others. thats why we have arsenals to choose from. yes sometimes the shot will not let me use this ball, but when i can use it i have scored very well.

I am not a ball designer, but I think its just the core shape. I have used balls with similar numbers and covers, such as Shift and Attitude Shift and liked them. The success of the World Beater speaks for itself as well. Almost any ball will work well for someone, I just feel that the MC and MCP were not as versatile or user friendly as say The Cell line or Shift line.

I have tried everything i could think of to get a half way good reaction and never could. The only time i used this peace and got a good look was at 2 regionals on the scorpion and my VG and Furious were way better.

I loved the ball for 50 games and then it was dead! I had it drilled 50x5x60 and it was a beast. Once it died I couldnt get it to come back to life! Baked it, resuraced it, soaked it...nothing!

The first night out of box i went 257,243,297...797....In the 50 games I used it only a few were under 200....It hit great for me, rolled great and carried everything...Just dropped dead way too early

I drilled my pretty strong, I use it when I see a lot of oil, I love the hitting power, it's not the first ball out of my bag, but it's made me some $$$ when needed.  Sorry yours didn't work out.
