Ball suggestion.. Medium oil- smooth arcing
« on: March 17, 2009, 04:56:25 PM »
Looking for a super smooth arcing medium oil ball. I have high degree of rotational axis so I am looking for something that will not jump on me.
I want something that won't over skid in the oil or overhook on the dry. Something to smooth out spotty conditions. Something that would work well on a sport or PBA shot would be a plus too.

Here is my preliminary list. I'm also thinking I want a weaker cover solid vs a pearl. Not sure though Maybe a particle pearl or a hybrid. Those have been suggested to me but I don't know enough about them yet to make a decision.

Brunswick Avalanche
Storm   Jolt
Ebonite   Bash (not sure on yellow or red.. what is the difference?)
AMF 300   Venom
Hammer   Cherry Vibe (with rico drill?)
Brunswick Groove Urethane

Balls and layouts welcome.. New or old.

Thanks

I'd suggest:

-AMF Villain
-900 Global Creature
-900 Global Maniac(with a weaker drill.)
-Brunswick Copperhead
-Roto Grip Pluto
-Roto Grip Grand Illusion
-Visionary Ogre Pearl
-Visionary Gladiator Solid

I know that this is a large-ish list, but it's nice to have options.

I agree with notclay and raginCajun that the Copperhead is super smooth, just adjust the surface to match your lane condition and your set. Oh, and by the way I have a 15# NIB one I'm selling for 70 + actual shipping.

Well, all the balls mentioned so far can fit the bill. Lots of very good choices. Don't forget to tell us what you decide on so those of us with a slight bias (PgIoNwSiLtAhStHhEeR) can heckle you

thanks for the info.. I took a look at it and it is smooth.. I'm just afraid that it is too strong oob and that if I bring it up to a higher grit it would get too jumpy..
and I am one of the few people that still throws 16 lbs... but thanks for the offer

What about the sidewinder? That was one ball I was considering but I thought it might be too strong as well.  Hybrid particle. I think it is weaker than the copperhead but I think it should be just as smooth or smoother..

Thanks.. I really think the pin slasher is too strong though..
here is what I have.. I want something just below my widow pearl in terms of handling oil but with a smooth look. My widow pearl is pretty angular.

Hammer   Raw Hammer Anger
Hammer   Black Widow Pearl
Visionary   Green Gargoyle*

Visionary   Slate Blue Gargoyle*

Oh, I see now. The PS is definitely a lot of ball and would overlap with a couple of the pieces you have. I was just suggesting because I've tried it at multiple surfaces w/ and w/o polish. The thing is a champ.

Well, again, there have been many good suggestions so far. Is the Villain still high on your list? I could see that ball slotting in there very nicely. Same with the Avalanche, as others have said. Good luck deciding.

May not be what your are looking for but I have a weak drilling on the awesome finish and it is smoother than my urethanes. I would definitly suggest grabbing one with the right drilling these balls are what you need.

And this is your pick for super smooth medium oil?  how is it with this layout.. what do you think a rico layout would do on this ball. or maybe even a shorter pin to pap like 2.5"
