Ball maintanence
« on: August 01, 2007, 06:28:13 AM »
I'am buying a T-Road Solid for league this year and need to know what type of product I should get to take care of the ball with. I plan on keeping it in oob condition. Where I bowl we don't have a proshop so any ball maint. I have to drive 20 miles so I need to do the majority of the work myself.

I like using Abralon by hand, unlike sandpaper and scotchbrite the results look nice. I have a spinner, yet prefer the results I get using abralon by hand over that.

1000 grit abralon every 15-20 games and a quality cleaner after every use should keep the ball in good shape.  If you notice any significant decrease in performance it may need a trip to the shop for a good resurface once in a blue moon.

For regular maintenance, something like Powerhouse Power Wash or the Legends cleaner will work very well.  Even a Simple Green/water mixture will work pretty good.  Clean it after every set and you shouldn't need to do anything else more than once a month or less.

I like to use Storm Reacta Clean between sets and Track's (now PowerHouse) Clean & Dull when the ball needs a good deep cleaning.

I've gotta say, Track Clean & Dull is my personal favorite.  Definitely worth it, too bad it's apparently out of production, so get it while you can.

If you just want to refersh the ball's surface from time to time, you can do it with a wet sanding pad by hand. A spinner will only be necessary if you want to resurface, polish the ball or work with sanding lines in your track's direction. But as long as you just want to get it back to a matte finish, a gentle rub in the sink is enough, plus some frequent cleaning after use and maybe an oil extractio in the bucket every 50 games or so.
