I was wondering what is the advantage of not having finger inserts in the bowling ball. I have always bowled with finger inserts and was wondering how no finger inserts would work.

Advantages of no grips include never having to replace grips, same spans and pitches at all times (I've replaced some grips that were so worn that the spans had been reduced by 3/16"), and less stress on the finger joints.  A cleaner release is seen by some as an advantage and by others (who need more revs) as a disadvantage.  --  JOhnP

For me it gives a better feel at the release. Without inserts I can not really feel it come off my fingers. With inserts, I get a little burn and I know that I threw it correct.

I am sure there are other reasons, but for me this is why I use them.

I cannot explain the consistency in release that I get without grips. I tried another ball recently with grips, and I felt retarded. I doubt I will ever go with grips again.
