« on: June 15, 2016, 02:06:37 PM »
So what's the diffrence between the 2?
What is flip?
Most used:
Motiv Venom Shock (14)
DV8 Grudge Hybrid (14)
Hammer Scandal (14)
DV8 Freakshow (14)

Sometimes.
C300 Swerve (14)
Motiv Jackal LE (14)

Retired:
Roto Grip Sinister (13)
Motiv Jackal (14)

Given to a no-thumber in the club:
Brunswick T-zone (13)

Might stick with Motiv from now on.

Hook is a general term for a ball that curves.  Flip is a specific type of hook, describing a ball that goes far down the lane then curves sharply.  Think "hockey stick" versus "banana".  --  JohnP

I'd say flip references a quick response to friction

My opinion is that "hook" is more of the overall amount of movement (total strength) vs "flip" which would be ball motion.

So witha  flip ball you should be quite precise on where you throw it. If you do it wrong, the ball will use up its "power" before it's supposed to?

Hook is in oil. Flip is exiting the pattern off the dry.

U will see a sanded ball hook in the mid lane , u usually won't see a shined ball do that.

And vice versa, within reason.

There's a reason they say skid, hook, roll

Before OR After it is supposed to hook.
It hits like crazy, providing tons of power WHEN APPLIED CORRECTLY.
When not applied correctly, it leaves TONS and TONS and TONS of washouts and wide open splits.
