Title: Fingertips dont bend - reverse pitch?
Post by: BT on May 09, 2003, 04:31:06 PM
In reading Capa's post regarding what finger tip inserts you like I started thinking about this.

I have the same problem and, asked my driller IF I should go to say a 1/4 reverse pitch in the fingers. He suggested 1/4 reverse in the Middle and I think 1/8 forward in the ring. His reasoning was that thats where you get your lift. Question is should I try 1/4 reverse on both fingers? What pro's/con's will there with this? I dont even feel the pads on my fingers in the grips.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

I went with 1/4th reverse, and think it feels more comfortable.  I can still get pretty good lift because of the finger grips, and it takes some strain off your fingers.  1/8th forward in the ring will KILL your finger until you get used to it, if you've been used to pulling equally with both fingers, going reverse in the middle and forward in the ring could be a lot of fun.

I use Powerlift inserts and have found that only 1/16 reverse was just great.

Made all the difference in making my fingers not looking crinked!

Note when I don't use powerlift inserts I use 1/8 forward very comfortably.

The reverse in the fingers allows me to have less reverse in the thumb also.
This keeps my thumb in the ball till I want it to leave.

PS I like to feel how far my fingers are away from front of insert.
If close when hand in ball on drilling table probably ok.

You can actually see space and how much you have to adjust.

BUT DON'T FORGET THAT 1/16 reverse with power lidt is still 3/16 forward!

Small wonder; 3/16" is not far from 1/8" (2/16") !

Please explain the above statements. thanks.

Charlest,

I did realize that and that is why I emphasized that I had powerlift inserts, and how I pitched differently with the non powerlifts.

On the bad explanation I gave.

When one puts their ball fingers and thumb up on the drilling table, one can look carefully at fingers and see any crinking up of finger joints, any crinking sideways and also one can feel see space between the finger pads and inserts if one puts a little focus on it.

I can feel a dramatic difference and see in how my fingers lie just with the 1/16 reverse I have added.  Now I have pad contact sitting on the bench with both fingers in the inserts while pretty relaxed.

What manufacturer makes the Power Lift Inserts? (example, Vice? Turbo? etc.)

Vice grip, Turbo, 10th frame, and Contour all make powerlifts.

I think they range from 1/4 forward to 1/8 forward pitch, (the powerlift part).
This assuming the insert is drilled at 0 forward reverse.

Sometimes I just prefer the straight ovals and slight forward for extra lift.

I use Turbo 4 in 1 Quad Grips, but they don't have much forward on them. Maybe 1/8 at the most. Most people around here use Vice Grips because that is all the Pro Shops carry. They have to order my Turbo Quads special for me. The Vice Grips appear to have more forward than the Turbo's. The Vice are sized smaller than the Turbo's for what is supposed to be the same size. Example, I use a Turbo 13/16 for my middle finger. On a Vice 13/16, I can't even get my finger into it with pinching and squeezing the heck out of my finger. Anyone else experience this?

Forward gives you more lift?

Yes, for me.

For many pros once they get lateral finger pitches right.

They never adjust.

But they will adjust forward reverse for either more forward/lift,
or less forward or reverse for less hit and lift.

Brick, I tend to use turbo quad powerlift side.

I think they have less forward too.  They are also softer and I can fit on a snugger size easier because of that softness.

PS for turbo's I order soft, they also have hard.
