Title: Florida BR get together
Post by: kev3inp on August 29, 2007, 01:49:07 AM: I'd like to put together a mini-gathering in Florida for our members and friends. Last year we went to one at Boardwalk Bowl in Orlando with Star from England and his wife Mandy. SrKegler and Alakazam and their wives were also in attendance and we had a lot of fun. There were others slated to show, but for various reasons couldn't make it; it happens, no big deal. Unfortunately Star and Mandy can't make it over to our side of the pond this year, so we'll have to do it ourselves.

For us it'd be ideal if people wanted to come down to South Florida to bowl, but I realize that's highly unlikely, so how about something in the Orlando or the Tampa areas? It'd be a lot more centrally located and the drive wouldn't be too bad for any of us. And of course all you bowlers living in the area we decide on would find it exceptionally convenient. As for dates, how about some Saturday in late September or early October to give everybody a chance to arrange their schedules accordingly?

If anyone has an "in" or a relationship with a center in the areas mentioned and could help in scheduling that'd be really great. If we're really nice to them maybe we could get Ken and Ed from the Let's Go Bowling Show to show up.

Ok, I've put it out there. Who's interested?

From watching the site, I know there is quite a few member from the central Fla area. How about some input from them.

IF the interest is there, I'll tryto get some equipment donations.

The grand opening is supposed to be on the 1st with Randy Pedersen, Jason Couch and Del Warren appearing.

On edit, I see it's Davie AMF. We tried to find a Sunday league there this season, but no luck. Still looking, and SpareZ is too far.

When you say installing training lanes, what do you mean? I know they have the CATS machine in now.

I take it you're familiar with this facilty. I saw an ad for the grand opening somewhere, with the hours and who was going to be there, but I can't remember where right now. I understand Boardwalk had CATS lanes, too, but they were on the birthday party side and were down when we were there.

The grand opening at Seminole for the Kegel Connection will be from 11 AM to 3 PM Sat. Sept 1. Jason Couch for Ebonite, and Randy Pedersen for Storm will be appearing, along with former Team USA members for these companies, and Chuck Gardner for Brunswick. And of course, a name everbody knows, Del Warren, will be appearing there to help with the opening and represent Kegel. The number is 727-395-0412 if you would like more information.

Wow, I didn't know that and that is pretty sweet. I saw the CATS machine in there while practicing a while ago. Once they get that other stuff in there it should be pretty cool.

Post by: BOWL119 on August 29, 2007, 07:10:59 PM: You could contact Larry or Linda at Pinchasers on Hillsborough Ave in Tampa and see what they could do. They are very nice people and are willing to help any and all bowlers.

Could also see if Dave Olm could donate a few things. Also, Lucy Sandelin (USBC SR. QUEENS CHAMP) could do some sort of clinic since that is her home house when she bowls.

If you need any info on them, just drop me a line and I can forward anything that could help.

Colleen, even if there's no get together on those dates, keep reminding me and we'll drive up for our own. The wife's youngest lives in the area, too, so we can kill the proverbial two birds.

BOWL119, that actually sounds pretty good, we'll keep it as a definite possibility.

Any other interest or suggestions? Then we get to pick a date. I'm excited already.

Ok, the Tampa area it is, the venue has yet to be finalized, but does anyone have a preference particularly about the date? 22nd too soon, the 6th too late? What would you like? As long as I give them 2 weeks notice I can take off any Saturday. I figure we'll drive up on the Fri. night after work and go home Sun. morning.

I'm not very familiar with any of the houses in the Tampa area, Dunedin Lanes are pretty much our 'home' alley. Big, big kitchen ! Need money for the Granite counter tops. I'm actually selling all my honor score rings and watches on Ebay. Must say that any action on these easy lane condition is a gamble against anybody. Easy conditions blur the separation of the bowlers. IMO

Hoping someone puts together a schedule of events (even if it comes to a one day) just so I can plan my time. I have a sister in FL that I owe a visit too .. going to try and do it at this time .. naturally this has to agree with my wife's schedule .. but feel it CAN BE DONE!

I'm looking into getting a couple of pairs for the day, and trying to arrange payment by the game, rather than the hour. This year in NC I tried to be you in the amount I bowled, but I don't think I did you justice.

Star: OK, buddy, no private jet, but I know you'll be in the jacuzzi thinking about us. "Oy, what wankers!" That's ok, I know you mean it with love.

So far: Oct 6, venue not set yet. Looks like close to a dozen people, perhaps a bit more.

I've e-mailed Pinchasers, AMF Clearwater and Liberty Lanes to see if they can help us out. Lane-Glo I've omitted as too far, and I can't contact Dunedin through their site, apparently. While we're waiting to hear back, any other suggestions?

Pinchasers says they're kind of full up with birthday parties that day, but they're going to call me and see if we can work something out.

Seminole can do it and we'd get a discounted rate of $3.00 a game. I'm not sure if their CATS, etc. stuff will be available that day, but I just yesterday heard the price schedule on the Go Bowling Show and it wasn't too bad. Not sure when that show will be posted; we only heard the first half of the show before we went to practice.

I got a message from AMF Clearwater, but I'll have to call the guy back tomorrow so he can try to talk me into it, I think. I'm keeping an open mind. Have you noticed that Ed Butler no longer talks about them at the end of the show?

Alakazam is going to check with Dunedin for me.

If any of the other local bowlers want to see if their houses can do it, or if someone has severe objections about a certain house, now is the time to speak up.

Post by: kev3inp on September 07, 2007, 04:17:41 PM: Kiall, we're actually sort of being forced to go to Sparez Davie already because we can't find another league on Sun nights. Holiday Springs is cheap, that's why we go there to practice. They've picked up the Tuesday DC Classic league that used to be at Tamarac, so now we need to pick another night to practice. Tamarac doesn't seem too interested in keeping their league bowlers and their service is spotty at best. If we could bowl another night we'd probably be at Brunswick Margate, but work schedules, etc. are in the way.

We started it 2 years ago with the help of SrKegler and the friends we have met will live long in our hearts.

Its really nice to see the Florida gathering continue after 2 years where Mandy and me had such a great time. It will be very sad not to be there this time. Its been the highlight of our year coming over to see you all and having a great time on the day.

Hopefully next year we can make it and meet everyone from the first 2 years and the "newbies" from this one.

Darold, Gary or Kev would you take a picture and send it to me of all the attendee's if you have a chance. Thanks.

Post by: Alakazam on October 07, 2007, 09:37:46 PM: The wife and I had a great time, it's too bad Scooterdog had to do some double duty at work and couldn't get there sooner, but it was great he made it. Also nice to meet se7en from Sarasota, by the time the day was finished, we had pushed and sucked up all the oil from the front and had plenty of carry down to contend with. All in all, we bowled about 9 games apiece and then went to a nearby Applebees for some more libation and food.

Me, I was just stuck at home and the weather turned cold!! Typical!

Would have loved to have been there again this year and meet all the good friend from previous years and the newbies but hopefully thats a treat for another year.

I know Bill (Zuben) would have made an appearance if he were available. His induction into the Florida Hall of Fame was this weekend, so he was gone. If you have another gathering, please consider us here at Seminole and Kegel Connection. We could possibly work something in with the C.A.T.S. and Bowlers Map if possible.

I know a couple of you heard from Ken that we have monthly clinics here, so I'll try keeping you posted on those in the future. If anyone has any questions, feel free to contact me. I love helping and love bowling in general.

Didn't bowl for a week after the doctor visit and then foolishly went to leagues and bowled with my shoulders only. Naturally the bowling didn't help. Wrote SrKegler and advised I would not make it!

My wife and I packed up and went to NY .. figured it was the only way to STOP bowling! We've been in NY since last thursday and it looks like the leg is healed. We head back to NC on Friday .. sorry I missed the gathering .. I was looking forward to meeting another group as well as seeing old friends!

Glad it went well .. hate missing bowling!
