First five weeks...ugh.
« on: October 09, 2007, 11:21:52 PM »
The first five weeks of league has inexplicably gone haywire. My sets have been 565 and under (447, 519, 475, 565, and 446). My spare shooting has gone to pot, something in my release is out of alignment and I think I'm heel-toeing again. This is getting unbearable.

I guess I need to practice more and get working with a coach because it seems that it took three months to backslide into bad habits after conquering them last Spring. Who know? I'm just venting a little. Thanks for reading.

One needs to get off the religion threads and on to the bowling threads!

I'm the same way.  I'm leaving so many 9 counts on quality shots and then paying full penalty on bad shots.

I'm averaging 195 and 197 on my two leagues.  That's almost 20 pins lower then last year.

Im looking forward to the cooler and drier weather.
The lane man has been watching me bowl during practice each week and changing the shot.
I havent gotten into a groove with the heat & humidity messing with my grip each week, the lane changes, and the fact that I bowl with and against people that throw mostly plastic down the lane has really been holding me back.

Some things im going to be thinking about in the next few days to carry with me the rest of the season.

1. Stick with the particle solid longer, just because it checks up early dont feel like you should switch, just follow the oil line and make your own wall.
2. Dont let the only lefty in the league that averages 214 get to you, it must be nice to be a lefty in this league and have the whole lane to yourself. You were born a righty, deal with it.
3. Dont go in with a game plan, keep an open mind and adjust.
4. Keep drying up the outside, the wall has shrunk by 5 boards over 2 weeks, you need to keep making your own shot out there.
5. Switching to the absolute inferno early may give you confidence, but its not going to give you the best chance by game 3.

Ken, come up with a few points of emphasis that will improve you, and stick with it.

K-Dawg, are you sure you're not bowling duckpins? Keep trying, it will come around.

Candlepin, maybe. Haven't rolled duckpin since I was four in Connecticut. I did candlepin two years ago in New Hampshire.

I thought it was just me having all these problems as of lately.  My last sets were 163, 183, 181.  Average is down to an even 200.  I think I was being stubborn this last week because of previous week.  Lanes broke down so fast that I thought I would try my spare (plastic ball) as my strike ball instead of looking for the "oil" or shot the lanes were giving.  I will soon (money permits) have a urethane in my arsenal which should help me out a bit.
