Title: Florida Scratch Bowlers
Post by: SrKegler on October 17, 2004, 12:54:30 AM
For years now I’ve been preaching that tougher lanes conditions and lower scores should help revive tournament bowling.

Well, after reading MichiganBowlings post, I’ve decided to put my money where my mouth is.

Since I’m going to have a lot of free time on my hands here shortly I’ve decided to try and establish the same type of tournament in Florida that he is running in Michigan.

A while back he mentioned “baby steps”.  Bowling didn’t get in this predicament overnight, problem won’t be solved over night.  However, if we can get it going in two states, what’s to stop people from the other states doing the same thing.

Hopefully I can lay the groundwork and have tournaments running by May-June.

Surely we have some old retired bowlers in other states that can do the samething.

Who knows, the baggers may even improve enough to join in.

Thanks for the props srkegler.  Let me know how I can help out!  I think you have the right ideas, try to work now toward getting some summer events going.  It will take a lot of time to spread the word, so starting now should be plenty of time to get the word out.

My first year, I charged $50/person, and I think we did $10 pots.  I found out later that most people wanted $15-$20 pots.  First year, maybe $50-$60 entry with $15-$20 pots.  It's just best to ask around for opinions on that stuff.

Remember that first summer that I ran mine, I only had 20 at my first event, then we had the one in Detroit area and had 48, then you came up to the one up north and we had 39, then off to Lansing where we had 48 again.  The momentum hasn't stopped since!!!

Best of luck with your tournaments, and feel free to email me anytime if you would like any suggestions, for what they are worth!
