How many throw mostly assymetric equipment?
« on: April 17, 2010, 05:10:33 AM »
I've kind of just come to the conclusion that I throw only assymetrical stuff. I was wondering if I'm actually hurting myself in that symmetric stuff tends to be much more versatile. Assymetrics can give you an incredible look when they match up perfectly, but often they do not. House shot is not what I'm worried about, any ball there will look good. What about sport shots? How many prefer symmetric over assymetric and why? I definitely think I should incorporate more symmetric stuff into my lineup, but just seeing what you guys think.

I think it depends on how Asymmetric matches up with your game.  Personally, I don't have any in my bag.  I used to have several, had my best ABC/USBC tournament ever using an X-Factor Deuce.  However, recently, I don't carry very well with strong asymmetric balls unless I throw it absolutely perfect.

Yeah, same for me, currently there is no asymmetric in my bag, but I'll be drilling up 2 of them this week.

I'm strictly symmetric.  I can't get an asymmetric ball to do the same thing twice in a row... no such probs with symmetric equipment.  When I put one of my balls down I know exactly what to expect.

I only use symmetric pieces the asymmetrics for some reason just dont match up well with my game at all
maybe too high of a rev rate or too much hook but no matter what I threw them on they did not react well for me

I've had limited success with asymmetric pieces and the ones I have had success with had the MB on the negative side of the thumb.  I'm not sure what that all means really, but I have better success and score better more regularly with symmetric pieces.

Yeah, I used to have the same problem, but if you drill the ball really weak they seem to work great. My old ball driller was a stacked leverage on every ball kind of guy, but I got some balls drilled by a pro shop operator who was trained by Mo Pinel. Since putting correct layouts on the asymmetric pieces the balls roll fantastic.

If you were like me, originally, the asymmetrics would seem like they would die at your feet and not be consistent down lane. Try drilling up one with a weaker layout.

No ball with holes remains symmetric.  We all use asymmetric equipment.

Either by design or by default...

There are varying degrees of asymmetric strength though...

I mostly use asymmetric balls.  I can't seem to get
my symmetric stuff to hook enough.  I have had great
success with the Track Temper and Track 920A this year.
I have a Tropical and Smokin Inferno that I use if the
lanes are hooking too much.

I was actually just thinking about this myself today.  Most of my gear is asymmetric.  The symmetric balls that I do have, are drilled to create a good amount of asymmetry (RICO drill with deep fingers, leverage drill with VERY deep fingers).  I'm not sure why, but that's what works best for me.

Yeah it was just something I casually stumbled upon a few days ago. I ball mostly used equipment, all high end basically which all happen to be assymetric. Most of my best scores have come from symmetric and mild assymetric equipment. I have about 15 balls laying around my room, and I think two are symmetric. I may make the move back to the mid-price stuff and see how they roll.

Ditto for me. I don't know if it has to do with my style or the drillings of the asymmetrics or what....or maybe the symmetrics allow more room for error, I don't know, I just know they work best for me.

Nearly everything I have is asymetrical, try to keep the mass bias strength around .015. The only time I use a symetrical ball is either on heavy oil or light oil that will give me a smoother reaction.

i typically only have 1 maybe 2 asymmetric balls because unless im on sport i dont need anything stronger than a benchmark ball and they dont make many weaker asymmetrics.
