Pulling the ball
« on: September 05, 2009, 01:29:45 AM »
I'm a little frustrated and could use some help.  I averaged 218 (high for the year)last year and 226 for the summer.

Now that we've started the new 2009-2010 season, I'm pulling the ball. I stand on 21 try to fade the ball 10 out to 8, pull it to 12 or 13.  Stand 26 try to swing 13 out to 10, pull the ball to 15 or worse.  The more I move left, the more I miss left.  Targeting the arrows.

The problem seems I can't project the ball right.  Anywhere I stand, the ball just goes down and in.

If anyone has any help or recommendations, I'd surely appreciate it.

Thanks,

Have someone look at your shoulders. One thing you may be doing is pulling your shoulders to the left just a hair. Hard to say not seeing you.

Sticking just a little on the approach causes me to pull the ball.  --  JohnP

Turn your feet slightly towards your throwing hand. This will open up your shoulders. This should help with your tugging issue. It corrects mine every time when I get to tugging the ball.

Try throwing it at the 3 pin, instead of the pocket. Eliminates the 'trying' to throw a strike and will open up your shoulders easier.
This is something I do with students that have trouble when they move inside or tries to open up the lane.

Also make sure your parallels are right...meaning you have a certain swing path that is yours If you try to stand too far left and attempt to throw it too far right, possibly your body will not allow you. Stay within your parameters.

sounds like you havn't "opened up your body". you want to have your body more facing left for righties right for lefties the further inside you are. the basic thing i do to open up my body is as follows. take where you are aiming at the arrows and pull your eyes back to the foul line, then double the distance between where you end up looking and where you want your ball to cross at the arrows, and the spot you come out with is where you want to angle your feet shoulders and for some your pushaway to. helped me and a few other people hopefully it helped you

You could also be having early timing. Are you falling off balance at all at the line?

Thank you for the responses.  I am going to work on the recommendations you gave me during practice next week.
