"Overseas" Balls??????
« on: February 06, 2008, 02:52:05 AM »
Never have understood the "Overseas" balls, except to know that they are sold outside the USA and are not usually available here. However, nowadays I see on some internet bowling sites that they are advertised.

So, what is the difference between these "Overseas" balls and those we normally see for sale in the USA? Do they adhere to the USBC standards? If not, what do folks use them for here in the USA?

Or have I totally missed the boat, so to speak?

Many of the Overseas releases are on the USBC approved ball list.  Case in point, the Paragon's and Archon's that were made for the Korean market are legal for use stateside.

The Asian market typically likes to see lots of new balls, even if they're just color refreshes of existing balls with "II" tacked on the end of the name.  They also see different lane conditions than we see here.  Color preferences are different overseas, some balls are essentially the same as domestic balls but with different colors and names.

Most are USBC approved but as we saw in the Lanemasters forum, that's not always the case.

also i have noticed with a lot of overseas ball becuase of their lane conditions they prefer stuff that goes farther down lane. I have a brunswick ambitious overseas release and that ball goes forever and makes a sick turn in the back. that is all based on their lane conditions and what they throw. this may not be the case but most of their stuff goes a little longer to me. atleast most of the brunswick overseas stuff.
