Title: Getting back at it....redrill or buy new
Post by: big_bg on March 03, 2015, 05:03:08 PM
Hey guys, due to university i basically stopped bowling around 2006. Now living a 2 minute drive from two different centres I'd like to get back at it. Obviously in 8 years my hand has changed a bit and will likely need my span altered. The balls i currently have are
1) Scorchin Inferno (15 games on it)
2) Diesel Particle (50-70 games on it)
3) Brunswick Zone Classic (70+ games)
4) Storm Ragin Bashee (15 games)
5) C300 Wrath XP (15 games)
6) C300 Super Tropper (70+ games)
7) Spare Ball

The ultimate question is that most of these balls are fairly old and from what i understand most new equipment is a fair bit stronger in their various categories. If the span needs to change is it worth it to plug and redrill the thumbs? or should I just look at adding a few new balls?

I'd think the Scorchin, Wrath XP, and spareball would be a good starting point with having those redrilled. Getting those 3 plugged and redrilled will cost about the same as 1 new ball

Exactly what SVstar34 said. They would be a great starting point.  You won't know what to buy until you get back into it and see what your bowling on anyway

There is nothing wrong with those balls.  I like the idea SVstar34 stated with getting the Scorchin' Inferno and the Wrath XP redrilled (and resurfaced with oil extraction) as a starting point.  Once you get back into the game, you can continue getting previous balls reconditioned one at a time.

If you are bowling on THS most of the time, you won't see too much of a  difference between your current equipment and newer equipment.

Ended up having the thumbs in the Scorchin Inferno, Wrath and Ragin' Banshee redone. Fortunately they could be drilled out and a large slug put in. Turns out my span was too long and the pitches were completely off, my old driller had zero pitch everywhere which explains some of my difficulties getting it off the hand. Time will tell but at least I have some stuff to start with again and then move on to newer equipment.

Thanks guys

Don't be afraid to tweak the surfaces on any/all of them.  You can change A LOT with some expertise in that department...
