Give me a ball that I can always throw up the boards.
« on: April 13, 2008, 02:01:13 PM »
I don't care if its an old 1990's reactive ballthat might be what I'm looking for. My current balls I use are a Wrath SF and a Power Groove, I can play up the boards with my wrath about 50% to 75% of the time. If its dry, forget about it. My Power Groove hooks off the lane forget about playing that up the boards(I bought it to use it for the exact opposite of what it does). I was hoping it would hook less then my wrath, go figure =/. Anyway I need something for playing it straight/ dry lanes. Give it to me people.

I can throw my very, very, very, very glossy Black Widow Solid straight up the lane-most of the time. If we're talking extreme dry, better get plastic.

White Dot, or possibly one of the 2 latest releases from Lane #1, The Liberator (urathane with a diamond core) or XXXL Starburst (plastic with diamond core)

I got the liberator an its no match for the jazz. The liberator will hook when it sniffs dry boards. The jazz's cover will allow the ball to get much father down the lane than my liberator with the same hit an good carry

We were not being sarcastic about using a White Dot or A Maxim to go straight up the boards. Unless you have very ball speed AND very low revs, that is the only type of ball that you can guarantee that anyone will be able to "go up the boards" with. Any other ball, polished or not, at some time, will be too aggressive for some dry oil pattern.

I have heard people say that the xxxl hooks as much as a medium oil ball.

You could go with a Brunswick Groove (not the Power Groove, which, for some inexplicable reason, seems to hook the building for everyone I know who throws one). The Groove has a urethane cover and a simple 3-piece core, so it definitely won't be uber-aggressive. You could even polish it to get it through the heads cleaner and give you a hair more pop on the backend.

The XXXL will NOT hook as much as a medium ball. With it's diamond core and plastic cover, it might only hook a couple boards more than a regular plastic on toast lanes. It'd be great for going up the boards on those toasted lanes.
