Give me a ball that I can always throw up the boards.
« on: April 13, 2008, 02:01:13 PM »
I don't care if its an old 1990's reactive ballthat might be what I'm looking for. My current balls I use are a Wrath SF and a Power Groove, I can play up the boards with my wrath about 50% to 75% of the time. If its dry, forget about it. My Power Groove hooks off the lane forget about playing that up the boards(I bought it to use it for the exact opposite of what it does). I was hoping it would hook less then my wrath, go figure =/. Anyway I need something for playing it straight/ dry lanes. Give it to me people.

You can get a Roto Grip Mercury for less then 70 bucks online and that thing is smooth and weak when you want it to be.

You'll probably need plastic or urethane.  I know I bought a Roto-Grip Neptune to play straighter on dry boards, and while I can play straighter to a degree, there is a point where the ball becomes too much.  I'm going to try to polish it a ton and see what that brings me.

I suggest a urethane ball.  I have a Liberator and Scout High Flare urethane and both of these balls allow me to square up on drier patterns.

The Liberator may need a surface adjustment depending on the lane pattern but it's an awesome ball for what your looking for.

I have the same problem. There is some times I just can't get one of the aggressive balls in the pocket with over under from trying to swing it more or play tighter and just can't get a consistant feel, so i just go plastic. play up the 10 board with mine polished and hooks enough to strike everytime.

I even got sick of bowling on the Viper pattern (I hate this pattern for some reason just can't figure it out) but I just gave up on it and went to my plastic and because I could throw it straight w/o hooking I actually shot 30 pins over my first game..lol

Lane #1 XXXL Starburst, plastic with a dual diamond core, gives you smooth gradual move to the pocket with hitting power.  You can play up the lanes all day with this ball.

The liberator is a great ball but I have to say, it tries to pick up arc early and if the backends get fried this can be a very very over under ball.  I have friends that have both and are on my team, the starburst is the only ball that's truly "up the boards"

i have one of these coming for this exact reason..

the only problme is hard to find...

my xxxl will hook to the 4 pin on burnt conditions from the 10 board...

I agree with the Groove Urethane. I just got one for short dry lane conditions and as a spare ball. It's like two bowling balls in one.

I had a Maxim for the same reasons, but didn't have enough grab in the back end for dry conditions.
