goals for upcoming fall season
« on: July 22, 2014, 08:46:23 AM »
With the onset of the leagues quickly approaching, what are some goals you have set for this season? Was the goals you set last season achieved, or are they still in tact or demolished?

My goals this year is to:
1 - get that elusive 800 series
2 - not buy so many new pieces. I am happy with my equipment currently. I added in the neighborhood of 12 new balls last season. I have 5 I haven't even picked up yet....  I know kinda stupid!

Last years goal was to increase my average by 10, I increased by 5. I would like that other 5 this year.

I have this stupid habit.  I  end up making two bad shots in a row, I am most likely not focused.  I will make a terrible first shot and then wiff my spare...

I hoping to just stop doing that lol!

Average well, but a certain number isn't my specific goal this year like it was last.

I'm going to grade myself weekly on a 1 - 10 (1 being awful and 10 being exceptional) scale on how well I threw the ball on a specific night.  I will be brutally honest every week w/this assessment and then at the end of the season break it down in stats.

If I throw the ball well consistently......I will achieve my goal again, from last year (230+ on the THS), this year as well.

My goal is to average 300 on a THS, just because it's so easy. Ok, ok, I'll settle for 293, to allow for that occasional stone 8 I didn't deserve.  :D

Tucked….I achieved my 800 (803) back in Sept 2005…have never repeated it.  That will come on a lane condition that you just recognize early and holds for most of the 3 games.

I would like my 300 game…34 years without one.

Why 12 bowling balls in 1 season ?   That would take me a DECADE to buy that many.

Nice approach. Your past commitment to self improvement certainly paid off at Nationals this year. Very solid bowling. Keep it up.

Thanks.  I'd like to have 1 game back but I was content w/my first nationals.  It was a really cool experience.

sixred -
The main reason why so many balls in last season - my stupidity mainly.
I wanted to try Brunswick, I liked em and built a line-up. Then thought: hmmmm DV8, same thing; Radical - you guessed it.
Basically I overfilled some gaps.

I've got focus problems like dozer said he did.  I'll either get questions about new balls coming out, or what I'm throwing, or get asked for advice, etc., and I'll get lost in pro shop stuff while I'm trying to bowl, then all the sudden I realize I'm not doing so hot.

Last year I managed to not have a set under 600 all year.  This year, likely unrealistic, but I don't want to have a single game under 200.  Yeah I know what people say about scoring goals, but I bowl in two competitive scratch leagues, score is kind of important . . and the only reason we practice and improve is so our scores go up, correct?  I want to be able to have the kind of focus and temperament to be able to keep my low games high to at least help the team out.  Sometimes all kinds of things go wrong and I realize that, but if I can manage to keep my bad games above 200 instead of around 180, those 20 pins might mean the difference between winning and losing a team game, and with one of my leagues being a draft league, games are usually still up for grabs in the 10th.

Bowl the elusive (not for some, but for me) 300 game.
Continue to improve on my timing, footwork, and ball swing to improve consistency.
Help my wife do the same  ;D

There is already a scale to determine your execution.  Score.  Nothing else matters.

Practice is the time to grade your execution, when the arrows are up it is time to worry about score.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard a guy that just shot 620 say "but I threw it great"……………… Uh, no you didn't.

A good rule of thumb for white belts is the first number of your pants should be smaller than the second number if you are thinking of wearing one.
