Shooting a 300.....
« on: August 10, 2003, 07:53:16 AM »
I am curious to see what your opinions are on this topic. Lets take your average bowler and call him Joe. Joe bowls two leagues, a highly competitive mens money league and a mixed league that is more for fun. Joe averages about 190 in both leagues. Now if Joe was going to shoot a 300 in either league, which league do you think he has more potential to do it in. Lets also say that the lane conditions in both leagues are the same. The only thing different is the environment. Competitive environment vs. Fun and less pressure. What are your opinions??

I apply to this topic to a tee. Last fall I bowled in a competitive mens league on Tuesdays and a mixed league on Saturdays. I finished both leagues with a 183 average. On November 30th I bowled my only 300 on the less competitive Saturday mixed league.

you would think that someone would bowl a 300 in the competitive league.  i still think that's the way it should go.  last year i bowled 2 leagues, competitive men's league and mixed monday night, i shot a 300 in the mixed one.  matter of fact, i shot both my 300's in mixed, less competitive leagues.  but in the competitive leagues defense...i did avg. a 221 while on monday i avg. 218

I feel that it should be shot in the competitive men's league, but also feel that the less competitive mixed league would be easier. There is less competition and less pressure in a mixed league and feel that it would be easier to do it here as opposed to a highly competitive men's league where most bowlers are very talented and average high. I guess the bottom line is that if you are gonna shoot it, you're gonna shoot it! It all depends on how you can handle the competitive or non-competitive environment!

I have bowled numerous in both both the fun and the competitive.  I have more fun shooting one in the fun leagues because there are alot more people in fun leagues that do not get the chance to see a 300.  I remember shooting one a couple years ago in a fun mixed league.  After I threw the 12th ball, I literally got mobbed by about half the league up on the approach.  Yes, I do like shooting one in a competitive league; especially against people you do not like for one reason or another.

I bowl in a  Competitive league and a mixed league on two different nights and when i threw my 300 game it is on the competitive league. I throw better and more consistent in my competitive league, cause i concentrate more, if you don't you get your butt whipped.

I suspect it would be easier in a less competitive league because the shot wouldn't transition as much.  In a competitive league several bowlers can share your line, but in a less competitive league its probable that nobody is sharing your line.

I bowled my first 300 game in a Jr./Adult league, with primarly kids that were around 10-15, some higher, and some that have never seen a 300 game, until I shot one, which happen to be my very first.  Some parents of those kids later on have came up to me and have said stuff like that their kids looks up to me and some have said that I have made up some minds of kids who either want to bowl or play soccer.  Some of those kids that are 14 15 or 16 now always come up to me and asking me stuff about bowling and all.  I can't wait for those kids to bowl a 300 and I hope they do it when Im around with them.

I think he would be able to do it in both, because in a fun league he won't realize what the hell is going on and just shoot one. Now in a competitive one, he'll probably be on point with every shot and shoot it. I have no idea what the hell I'm talking about I just like to type.
