Good urethane spare ball

I am using a spare ball for the first year in my life and I must say, I'll never go back. Having said that, it's uncomfortable not having a switch grip in the thumb due to concerns of plastic balls cracking, so I'm looking for a cheap urethane option.

Recommendations?

If only plan on using it as a spare ball no brainer to go with a Mix.  Cheap and durable as hell and nearly as straight as plastic.

I have used a switch grip in my plastic spare ball for years and it's never cracked.

Good to know, thanks. I've got 3 people telling me it will crack, two balls I've seen, but I'm sure it's like anything else, it may or may not happen. Good to know I have a chance of it working. Maybe worth the investment to try.....

The Mix is a great option, especially given that it's polished OOB and takes new polish well.

Depends who you are and how you throw it. A buddy of mine can't have a switch grip in plastic or it cracks around the thumb pretty quickly. He got a Mix and there's been no problem since.

That's what I have too. Can't recommend it enough if you're just looking for a spare ball.

Somewhat depends on how you roll the ball, I destroyed plastic balls for years because I track right up next to, or on my thumb hole on my spare ball, and when I had a switch grip in they cracked even sooner than with just a normal slug. I have not had any issues since switching to urethane spare balls (have one of the newer Motiv Sniper currently)

I would recommend as mentioned earlier the Storm Mix, or the Motiv's Sniper (think the current one is midnight?), they would convince you they are plastic in most cases and a durable as all hell.

I track on the edge of my plastic spare ball thumb, and destroyed several before concluding enough was enough. Using an IT, Switch Grip or a thumb slug didn’t matter. I switched to the Urethane Mix a few years ago and no issues since. I still clip the thumb with the Mix, but the ball is indestructible.


If you track high with plastic, I highly recommend the weak Urethane option.

The Black Mix is excellent, also made in China, for what it’s worth, Storm is pouring less..

Storm Mix is hard to beat.  It's priced right and it's very durable.

If you want something that you can also use on short or dry conditions, any urethane option from your manufacturer if choice will do.  These balls will hook more than the Mix.  Lower diff cores will be your friend.  Stay away from the Black Widow and Hot Cell.

You could also go with the Motiv Midnight Sniper or the (new) Hammer Tough. Durability of urethane, but more plastic type reaction.

midnight or Hyper Sniper. I've had my Hyper for 2 years and 0 cracks. I also leave it in the car for what that's worth.
