H E L P.....broke my 300 ring
« on: October 29, 2005, 06:37:56 AM »
What am I going to do.  My gold 300 ring, the only one I wear, I have had it since 1991.....got smashed by a pole  during some horseplay between myself and my son.  The purple glass around the diamond smashed and some even fell out.  The ring  now looks like a cheap cracker jack toy.
Does anybody have any suggestions?  Do you think balfour will fix it?  Anybody with a similar experience?  Should I just bring it to a jewelry store and have them try and fix it?  Any help will be appreciated it, thanks

Seems like I read somewhere you can get awards replaced. Since there is no more ABC it might be a problem.  Contact USBC awards department through Bowl.com and they might be able to help you out.

You cannot get a gold ring replaced due to negligence, sorry for the bad news..

You probably can buy a replacement saladium one for $75 bucks, I lost one of my 300 rings once and bought a replacement. The only issue with that now is ABC is no more..

My 298 ring was stolen back in 83 and I didn't replace it till last year. I called the ABC awards dept. and there was a really nice lady who looked up my info and told me what it would cost to replace it. Over $300 for an original exact copy of my other ring. Mine was silver with a black onyx stone. No one but me would know its was not the original.

So my advice is contact them and see how much this ring is worth to you.

And yes, I have not had the first 10 since 76 when I shot the 298.

I'd start with the USBC, then the ring company, and finally try a couple reputable jewelers.  Somewhere along the line you should be able to find someone that can fix it.

Hey I thought I would give you guys an update on my situation.  I called Balfour, the company that I thought made my ring.  They said it would be 75.00 to repair.  send it with a check and they would take care of it.  I called our association preisident, he suggested callign Keepsake, the company that makes the rings now.  I did, they seem to be willing to fix it for free.  Apparantly at some point they became the company that produed the ABC rings.  My broken one came from 1992, the lady on the phone said just send it to the keepsake repair dept and they would take care of it for free.  I have now doen that, and I am waiting for the ring to come back.. Will keep you posted.  This is good information to have.............does anyone know what year keepsake startign making rings for the ABC?  They also make the USBC rings, now.  thanks

Gold costs you at the prevailing rate for gold at the time you purchase the ring...if I recall correctly.

The Sport League 300 is gold for no cost...again if I recall correctly.

Does the free one still have a diamond?

The free one does not have a real diamond. Its cubic zirconia. The gold ones that cost $4-$500 have a real diamond..

Well, not sure how the USBC is gonna do it but this is how the ABC did it. They would give you a $75 credit towards a gold ring in lieu of the free saldium ring. So if the gold ring you wanted cost $475, you could tell them you didn't want the free one and get the gold ring for $400 or you could get the free saladium ring PLUS the gold ring for $475.

I hope that answers your question..
