Hada patch users question
« on: May 20, 2012, 01:55:07 PM »
For those who use Hada patches, do you offet it on the backside of your thumb or centered?  I'm trying to negotiate which side of my thumb drags more, thus offset to right or left, it's kind of hard to tell.  Any thoughts?

There are no cut and dried rules because it depends on how you grip the ball as well as thumb hole pitches. If you have a spot where you drag, and it's off center, by all means cover that spot.

As Clay said, just have to try a few and see what feels best. For me, before I started using them, I rubbed and blistered on the back of my thumb knuckle on the sort of outer point of it, so I center my patch right there. Lines one edge of it up with left edge of my thumb nail on my right hand.

First let me say that the Vise website does not do a very good job of explaining the product - specifically lacks informing you of what the different numbers/colors represent.  Through reading the forum, I've figured it out based on some of the users' explanations.

Having said that, I have been using the gray version for several years based on borrowing some from a friend and it being available in the local pro shop.

There are some pluses and minuses to using the tape:

Plus - goes on your thumb, which is quicker and easier than using traditional tape in the thumb hole.

Plus - Works pretty well and is flexible.

Minus - If you sweat, you will have some problems keeping it on your thumb.  It tends to wrinkle, bunch up, and come off at the edges, much like a band aid.

Minus - Leaves a sticky residue on your thumb, which is a pain in the rear to get off.

Minus - cost.  It's more expensive than bowlers tape.

I've been using the "blue" version for 2 years now and I think the product is fantastic. Started with 1 strip in the middle back of the thumb but have recently changed to two pieces on the back (with the seam of the two pieces running down the middle of the thumb). No sticking issues at all. Would recommend it to all bowlers with thumb issues. I always have a consistent release in all of my balls.
I do agree that the newer version of the tape is a bit stickier when removing (as compared to the original version), but residue comes off with a good hand washing. Nothing to get all worked up about.

Take a little alcohol residue wipes right off, gives you a clean consistent release been using the red for a few years now.
