Title: Have you ever?
Post by: Tripcee on September 12, 2012, 02:34:45 PM
Has anyone ever been in a situation in a league where the oil machine put light oil on one lane, and flooded the other? I was literally using my Taboo Spare on one lane, and then praying my Track Delta 1 would move a few boards on the other.

I think I cut my speed down to around 14 mph with the Delta 1, and got about 5 boards of motion out of something that normally moves 10-15 for me.

Needless to say, I was zapped score wise. Still managed to average 180, but even after we burned out an area, no miss area.

Note: When I threw at a spare on the 4 pin, the ball didn't hook until it got BEHIND the 4 pin. On the pin-deck. Crap was crazy. I don't think I've seen the crankers I bowl around throw so many gutters.

I loved the challenge, but man....That sucked.

yes. the lane machine ran out of lane cleaner on our pair so one lane cleaned and oiled, second lane 60 ft of oil

An older machine had a problem once.  Got stuck on the oil cycle.  45 ft forward and 45 ft back.  On wood lanes when everybody was using LT-48 and yellow-Dots.  Before reactive and before urethane.  I was still using a White-Dot.  Pure fugly.

Yes i had this happen to me in my league, oil machine flood left lane, and broke down and couldn't oil the right lane. I had to use my hooking ball on left lane, and my Brunswick avalanche on right lane, ended up shooting 289 last game with that condition.

Yes, long ago I saw the oil machine "break free" and go all the way into the pit, dropping oil all the way down. That lane was dead slick for 60 feet, while the other lane on that pair was the usual pattern.
The funniest thing I remember was my buddy saying "Press the 'machine return' button" really loud when people were trying to figure out how to get the machine out of the pit.

back when the local center had a whick machine it would at times switch off from full dress to short run and bumb the heads a bit with fresh stripped lanes the last 40 or so feet we would screw around on it wit a house ball hookin whole lane. bad thing is it did it during tournaments for a pair thn go back

The last time I saw such extremes on the same pair(mid 90's), it wasn't all the oil machine's fault, it was mostly the fault of the brain-dead individual at the control desk, who decided to put all open play on the same lane that day, ~30 games, IIRC. This was before that house decided to oil the lanes fresh for the evening leagues on a regular basis.

I wound up playing a Danger Zone, dull(400 grit? can't recall) on the right lane, slowly with strong lift, straight up the back of the ball, up the 8 board. The left lane? Sliding just right of the left gutter, swinging a Pink Hammer between 22-25 at the arrows, out to about 12(any further was OOB), ease off the speed and miss the headpin left.

The result? 680-something. How I did that well, I'm still not sure, but it's a night I'll never forget
