Title: Heavy oil ball
Post by: Big Columbia on May 12, 2008, 06:00:24 AM
Who is making the true heavy oil ball now? The strongest ball I have is the Complete NV. I usually don't see heavy oil but I got burnt yesterday by not having a true oiler......

Visionary's Centaur Particle. Do NOT drill it strong, it will burn up. The cover does not polish well. If you must, take the cover down to 1000 abralon. This is the perfect ball for HEAVY oil. ANYTHING else and it burns up. I have used this ball 3 times. I have owned it 2 years. I use it to BURN a hole in a FLOODED shot, then I put it away.  BEST OF LUCK!

My LevRG at OOB works well on heavily oiled lanes.
Perhaps you can also look at a Resurgence, or a Cell?

From what I've seen, LevRG, Attitude Shift or the Cell.

The Resurgence and the Cell seem like good fits for what your really looking for. You could also get something like an Ebonite Gamebreaker and take the surface down, that also works well.

I use a PBA Inferno (white/black one) which is the Scorchin Inferno. Drilled pin up, 4" ptp, the ball is a monster in oil.

Ebay has them cheap..

The only real super-heavy left is the AMB Particle.  Like other high-load particle balls, it's kinda in a class by itself.  However, for what most people would call heavy oil, the Cell is pretty hot.

Not to derail, but I have a question:  Where do you all *find* these heavy oil conditions?

I think I've had to bowl on what I would call "heavy oil" once in the last seven years, and even then, the condition broke down fairly quickly.  Even the flatter patterns I've bowled on have had *some* friction to move the ball.

What about the Brunswick Mammoth?

Seriously folks, these 2 balls are beyond heavy oil balls. These are basically all out flood balls that you use when you cant even get anything else to wrinkle or even roll, let alone hook. They are very much for EXTREME conditions.

I usually use my terminal velocity by AMF on heavy oil, at least relative to the house shot. I bowled a sweeper a few weeks back and was on the oiliest pair of lanes that I have run into in quite sometime. Couldn't get the terminal to wrinkle. Its drilled pin below the ring finger with the cg kicked a little.
So I picked up a world class particle of ebay cheap, always wanted to try legends. I plan on drilling it fairly strong and taking the cover down. I will probably not use it much at all, like Bracket Creep said, but I don't want to be caught like that again.

My vote is for the MoRich LevRg.  I use this ball on a THS in a place that has very weak backends, and I can also use it on the Scorpion and the Shark from very different angles and still carry well with it.  I have the surface at 2000 abralon, pin next to ring, mb next to thumb, hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I think I am going to go with either Visionary's Centaur Particle or the Scorchin..........

There's also Brusnwick's Mammoth left, if you prefer a symmetrical core ball. Together with the AMB Particle Centaur IMHO those two balls that define the true high end in oil balls, because of their particle load. If these do not move, nothing else will, or there is too little oil and they burn out at your feet

In my current arsenal, I would have to say the the LevRG would be the true heavy oiler. But I did own a Mammoth and that ball was just outstanding when the lanes were flooded.

There is a huge selection of aggressive balls. There isn't a narrow field of "heavy oil balls".

Guess what, you will have to play the lanes straighter/tighter at times. That's the way it is. There is no magic ball for true flat, heavy oil lanes you are going to play like a regular cake AMF party house shot. That is life.

For true heavy oil....BuzzBOMB....BuzzBOMB....BuzzBOMB. Read the magazine reviews and check out the vids on the net. Then choose whatever ball floats your boat. =:^D
