Title: Help in selecting a new ball
Post by: thedjs on August 28, 2015, 02:22:31 PM
I'm looking for a ball that will handle medium dry to dry conditions.  My speed is around 14mph and revs somewhere from average to lower than average.  I would like to stay in the Columbia or Ebonite brands.  I have a Track Mx05 that I just can't get to turn-over when playing inside.  I tried the Track Hx05 with no luck.  I am thinking about the Ebonite Cyclone or maybe a Columbia Freeze with a strong drilling of say 3 3/8 pin to pap.  If I could find one, I might consider the Columbia Crazy Antics.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Crazy Antics is way too much hook for what it seems like you're going for.  Not quite sure why the super strong drilling if you're going for a dry condition ball.  Any particular shape you're after?  Low hooking balls tend to still be very strong off the friction.

Cyclone has been a winner for many years, I don't think you can go wrong with it. Strong cover, pretty strong core so I don't think you should have any problem getting this ball to corner.

I'm just trying to get something that will give me a "skid-snap" type reaction when I have to move fairly deep inside.  I'm not having any luck with my present equipment which is drilled with 4.5 to 5" pin to pap so I thought maybe a change in the drilling might help.  I'm also looking for something that will be a forgiving when I miss a little right.

Ah, understood.  Going with something on the weaker end with a weaker core, even drilled strongly, is still going to be slow making the corner, however, the Cyclone is definitely a great ball, I'd have to agree with that suggestion.  But if you're after something that's going to give you miss room right, you might want to go a tad stronger, especially given your low speed and low rev rate.  Have you considered a Gamebreaker 2 Gold?

Thanks.  I have not looked at the GB-2 but I will.  Thanks again.

He didn't say GB-2, he said GB-2 GOLD.

The gold should skid a bit more, and corner a bit more, due to the pearl additives infused into the coverstock.

GB2 gold is very clean up front, strong arcing move downlane
not really a hockey stick motion, harder arcing is more like it

its definitely longer than the cyclone

You might look at the Viral.  It is Hammer, but in the Ebonite family.  The Vibe core is very good, and matches up well with tamer shells to keep the ball playable on hooking conditions, or allow you to play a bit straighter on fresh flatter patterns.  Even better would be the old Cobalt Vibe if you can find one.
