Help with inherited arsenal.
« on: December 10, 2021, 03:15:57 PM »
Hello,

Unfortunately - due to a sad loss - I have come into a large collection of bowling balls. 26 brand new in box and 31 single drilled without ANY games on them (this is not a sales pitch, so there is no need to exaggerate for me).

I have not been involved with bowling for many years but after deciding I want to get back into the game I wanted to seek out help on trying to figure out what to do with all of this equipment.

In general - are there any bowling balls in this lot that are MUST drill because of a stellar reputation on house shots, sport shots, or being an all-around great ball. Are there any pairs of 2-3 + balls that you think compliment one another and should be kept together as an arsenal (either a house shot arsenal or a challenge/sport shot arsenal).

Are there any balls on these lists that received such TERRIBLE reviews that they are not even worth my time? Finally, any rare balls in here that might fetch a high price tag? I really do not need the money but I have toyed around with the idea of selling some and donating the money to a local school bowling program.

Also - in general - do you think you can plug a balance hole and still get good performance out of the ball? Does rolling over a plugged hole in the track ruin reaction?

I know there is a lot to ask here - I thank you in advance if you are going to leave a meaningful reply. I look forward to being back in the bowling community.

Plugged balls are just fine. Plug in track can change things.

I think the highest value balls are going to be the overseas ones (BW Insanity, BW Omega, Code Red Limited, Extreme Fire Road, Marvel Maxx Gold)

The others that I feel would be sought after would be Alpha Crux, IQ Tour Pearl (assuming Gold ball), Haywire, Arson Low Flare Solid, Crossroad

I’d start with possibly giving a general location where you’re at so folks might be able to recommend a good pro shop for you.

You want to get things done at good shop.

There’s such a variety of stuff for you to choose from that already has holes in them, I’d start with those. The NIB, I’d make sure they’re in their plastic bag and the bags are closed. To help with cracking.

Find a shop, take the list of what you got. Take some photos to show the current layouts. Have them watch you throw some shots. Let them offer an idea of what to drill up and for what purpose. I wouldn’t redo more than five, honestly it be three, if just for league.  Learn what they do, get comfortable. Then add another ball with a purpose in mind. You have enough stuff to choose from. But no point in redoing everything with the same layout for yourself.

With the undrilled stuff, just watch Ebay. Check what’s sold and for how much. Check Facebook for some of the bowling groups to see pricing. Be careful selling online, but it helps for determining what’s worth what.

There are some very nice pieces there. Hell, I think Darren Tang is always looking for more Alpha Cruxes.

I don't follow Storm's lines, but was the IQ Tour Emerald also overseas? I know that the Sky Blue one was and that one sold for a lot, but I want to say that the Emerald was overseas as well.

You're spot on on the Black Widows. Seeing that market, they would sell as well.

No, the Emerald was stateside. There was a lot of hype about it staying around for a long time since so many people were missing the "gold ball" but that didn't end up happening.

Hi SD 73 Rip - Sorry for your loss!  What weight are these balls?  I could not see weight anywhere?  You have a lot of quality balls!  Coach Denny
