Congrats jbowl13!. Great job especially for someone who's barely a teenager. Barely a teen? That sounds like........Oh I won't go there. Anyway, like I said before congrats and I hope you like your new ball.

Essay: What would you do to get more “chicks” bowling?

To many people, men have dominated the sport of bowling and seem to be easily attracted to the sport. On the other, attracting women is much more difficult. When you do happen to come across a woman bowling, it is either because they love the sport or have been raised within a family of bowlers. In order to attract more women, we cannot limit it to only beautiful women, but to women as a whole.

There are many different ways to attract women, which includes women that are considered beautiful inside and out. One way to attract women is to spread the word of bowling. Current bowlers need to encourage women to join a league or someone could create a “get together” for anyone interested and have competitions. In order to do this, you may say that bowling is a fun, indoor sport that is easy to learn. You could also say that bowling increases your mental concentration and physical stature, mainly your arms. When you bowl in competition or fun, you still want to win. So a bowler would concentrate and filter out any distractions and focus on their task at hand. By doing this, you can apply this concentration to anything that you do outside of bowling. In addition, after time has passed throwing the ball many times, your arms seems to be stronger. So by saying positive comments about bowling to the women, you could attract more women.

Another way to attract women to bowling would be to offer incentives to women that bowl and greater incentives to those that win. In order to gather women into a bowling alley is to give them what they want. According to one of my one of my friends’ women love shopping, a challenge, traveling, and given attention. Bowling can easily offer this to women. To gain more women to bowl, a few coordinators can create a little competition and advertise it to women only. The winner will receive a $100 Gift Certificate to any store in a certain shopping mall. Bowling can also give women a challenge and a sense of achievement. Although, bowling can be easy to learn, to continually make quality shots takes time and practice. Though, once women fully participate in the sport and overcome the challenges, they will be proud of their accomplishments. In addition, if the women become serious about the sport or just want to have fun, they could travel and participate in different bowling tournaments across the United States. They would also meet different women that enjoy bowling as well and see different sites. Lastly, since this will gather new women bowlers, they will probably be given attention by a lot of the experienced bowlers and give them tips. If some of the women are considered beautiful, the men will probably give them attention and maybe coach them.
Another way to attract women to bowling is by convincing a group of women that are friends because some of girls (that are very pretty) that I know joined my school’s bowling team because their friends joined as well. The other reason why they joined was because they received credit for what the sport. After a while, they enjoyed it and participate in a league as well as compete with other schools on Oahu. I had a chance to speak to a few of them and they said that if their friends never joined bowling, they would have never participated in bowling. So by having friends encourage their friends to bowl, there would be an increase in women bowlers.

In determining which solution to increase the number of women bowlers is more effective, it needs to be tested for effectiveness. We can only predict what each solution can result in. In the first solution, in which current bowlers spread and encourage women to bowl can be effective, but can fail because when something is given by word, the truth gets exaggerated and sometimes people could be getting something completely different and think it is the truth. So although this solution can spread the word of bowling, the effectiveness doesn’t affect the number of women bowlers when you look at how encouraging bowling is done. The second solution is very effective because it targets the wants of a woman. By implementing this solution, the results will include a wide range of women from pretty on the outside and in the inside. There are no limitations to this solution because it is very feasible and very effective. The only thing that needs to be done is advertising, which can be done by having bowlers telling people they know or creating flyers and distributing it. The last solution is also effective, but should be together with my second solution. Once that is done, the number of women bowling should increase because the women are being targeted as interest. The only thing that may be difficult after gaining an interest from women is maintaining the interest in bowling. To maintain the interest is to make sure that the women are having fun with their friends and making sure that they are getting as much out of bowling as possible.

Consequently enough, the number of women bowling will increase. Women ranging in different ages, cultural background, appearances, etc, will come to appreciate the sport of bowling. It just takes time and planning in order to attract these women. By not extending these solutions to only women that have nice appearances, bowling as a sport, will gain new people, which includes those women that many men want to see. If some of these women see that you are not biased towards different women, you will gain their respect, and eventually would like to participate in bowling because you respect them. By giving what the women want, similar to men, they will come, bringing with them their friends and a love for the sport

For all that keep asking, jbowl13 received a NIB Lane 1 Cranberry Buzzsaw for winning the contest.  Richie and Clump from Lane 1 donated the ball.  Again, thanks for all that entered and judged.

Although we only had 5 essays this year compared to 8 last year, I still feel that this years contest was every bit as successful.  We had a whole new group of people enter as none were contestants last year.  Plus we had a much younger group so its great that the younger ones don't mind putting forth an effort to earn something.

I'd also like to thank Pooter Boof, aka The Curse of Dusty, for donating the runner up prize.  Pooter also donated last years runner up prize as well.  If it weren't for people like him this contest wouldn't be nearly as successful.  Its always nice when people help out the "yutes."

And a special thanks to Lane 1 for donating the Cranberry Buzzsaw and taking a proactive approach by contributing to this essay contest.  I didn't have a 14 lb ball to give to the winner and Lane 1 said that they would help by donating any ball in any weight if needed, and they certainly did.

Brilliant essay!  Congratulations!

One of my summer leagues is titled "Pampered Ladies."  Each woman receives a $50 gift certificate to a beauty salon/day spa.  The turnout isn't bad -- about 14 three-person teams.
