Ball Roller
« on: April 18, 2007, 02:09:56 PM »
I was looking to get a 3 ball or maybe even a 4 ball roller and was wanting to get your opinion on whats the best out there. I currently use a Storm Rolling Thunder 2 ball roller and it's a good quality bag, but I need more room.

Also, I'd prefer an inline ball carrier.

got the Champion 3 ball roller by BSI. Was 62.50 at Buddies.

I was a bit skeptical because of the price and had never heard of them before. Gave them a call and confirmed a 1 year warranty for any manufacturers defects so decided what the hell and gave it a shot.

Pleasently surprised with this roller. 3 ball inline storage with plastic ball cup bottoms and padded "velcro in" walls. Each ball section has an elastic band with a plastic clip for the balls (pretty nice thought but I think adjustable bands would have been a bit better as these do tend to slide off the balls). Then a flap that goes the hole length of the bag inside (some kind of thin plastic covered in material) that lays over the top of the balls with an elastic band across about 3/4's the way down and sewn in the middle making 2 stretchy band holders on top. I imagine a person with smaller feet could put shoes there but I use it for towels. Long pocket on top that continues past it's opening underneath the plastic lined pocket on top so that it uses the entire bag length (I shove the size 13's in there). Then 1 plain pocket on the side, and another pocket next to it that has little sections in it and such sewn in the back wall of it for coins, pins, business cards and such.

Zipper teeth seem kind of tight if I try to do one of those off balance lean over a chair and open a pocket with two fingers kind of manuevers. Probably a good thing as things with big teeth easy to open zippers tend to seperate on me. Also the plastic feet (non removable type) on the bottom when it's set upright seem to be just a touch too long, on thick carpet at home I lay it down as it feels a bit unsteady standing up (my first roller so that may be normal who knows). The handle doesn't pull out as far as others since this bag only has one handle section, but I'm 6' and it comes to my waist when extended so not a gripe as far as I'm concerned.

Rivits, axle, brackets all seem good and sturdy as well as the stiching. Has connections for a padded shoulder strap that's included but we can't figure out what kind of beast will be shoulder carrying a 3 ball roller when it's full. But I did notice the webbing holding the metal rings for this attachment went under the stiches for other pockets attaching to the bottom/back of the bag, looked very sturdy. Lifting handles on both ends. as well as ye ole velcro together handles.

Best out there is probably subjective, but I'm thorougly satisfied with it. I know the guys I bowl with were impressed by some of it's features that some of their more recognized brand bags didn't have especially at it's price point.

I recommend the Storm Streamline series bags or the Roto-grip bags.  I had a 3-ball Streamline for a few years and it held up very well.  The cups for the balls were nice and deep, so the balls didn't shift around unless you stood it completely upright.  A friend with an Elite bag (possibly the same as the Brunswick and KR bags) complains that his balls move and shift in the bag even at normal rolling angles.

If you want a 4-ball bag, I like the 2x2 stacked bags over the inline-4 bags (like a 3-ball roller with a fourth sitting on top) because they're wider and, since they separate into two 2-ball pieces, easier to lift in and out of a vehicle.  You don't have to lift 60+ pounds at once, you can do 30+ twice.  My 3-ball Streamline had a tendency to tip over while I was rolling it if I came over a bump or curb not quite square to the drop.  The 4-ball Streamline I have now has a much wider base and is not prone to tipping.  The weight is also closer to the wheels, meaning less supported at the handle.

If I were to buy a new bag, I'd get the 4-ball Roto-grip one.  It's similar to the Storm bag (Storm owns RG, and while Storm doesn't make the bags themselves, they're both made by the same company) and it comes in red.  A guy here has the 4-ball one and with the very thin grey pinstripes on the red background, it's a very good looking bag.

The champion bsi bag that injury was referring to is only $44.95 at this site.  I am probably going to get one in the next couple of weeks.

I'm getting an Ebonite Transport Inline IV roller.  They're cheap, durable, and skinny, which means that they're maneuverable.  (If someone else thinks otherwise, pm me.)

You could be like my Dad.  He's got several 2 ball totes that are in good condidtion.  Instead of getting a 4-6 bag roller, he got a folding dolly and just uses bungie cord to keep the bags on.  I feel a little silly with by 3 bag roller now.  He can carry eight balls a lot easier that I would 5-7 and he spent a lot less money.  The dolly cost him $40 plus the bags.  I guess the old man can teach me something every now and then.

Lanemasters 3 ball roller is very nice, faux leather.  Pricey, $140 or so.

When you buy, make sure you pay attention to the wheel base, I have a storm inline (forget the model) but due to the narrow wheel base, flips when I hit bump.  I'm not knocking storm bags, other than that it's a great bag, but it can be very annoying.  Hence, take a peek at other peoples bags first so you don't have that kind of issue.

I've two 3-Ball Inline and one 4 Ball Storm Rolling Thunder bags.  Definitely can't go wrong with either!  Both well built and sturdy.

elite makes the best 3 ball bags i have seen. i have the alien series (which is a little better then their regular stuff) and i love it. my friend has the pba one and he loves it. he also has a 3 ball hammer bag that cost like $30 more and once he got it felt like he was ripped off when he compare it to the elite pba bag. if your going to go 4 ball bad go for the ebonite inline 4 bag, unless u have a SUV or something big to drive.
