It feels great (300)
« on: June 18, 2005, 01:30:37 PM »

So, here's some backstory.  I bought 3 balls from UCFKnight300.  A Brunswick Nemesis, Goliath, and Punisher.  I decided to get the Nemesis and Punisher drilled up, and save the Goliath.  I wound up drilling the Nemesis with the pin on the PAP, hits the thumb and fingers all the way down.  I threw it for 3 frames last night.

Skip ahead to this morning.  I have a tournament at Du Bowl Lanes in St. Louis, Missouri.  I get there, and start throwing practice.  Kind of fishing for something, but nothing is really there.  The Approaches are like I'm trying out for a hockey team.

So, I decided to go for broke and bring out the Nemesis.

The Tournament starts, and I get up there and strike.

First game, right out of the gate.

X X X X X X X X X XXX 300

So, I'm stoked.  My first 300 since January 2002, and my fourth overall.

I scoot one pair to the right and get up there for the next game, still with the Nemesis.

X X X X X X X X X 9/8 277

Left a 7 pin that could have easily carried in the 10th, picked it up and came up pretty light, almost leaving a 2-7-8, but the 2 pin fell.

This was my first time ever shooting 300 with a ball out of the box.  Unfortunately, the next game, I hit a bit of carrydown.  Here's how it shaped up.

X X 61 X 8s1 X X 81 X X X X 192

First leave, I sprayed it out and it nailed oil.  Didn't come up and I left a 1-2-4-10.  I threw my punisher to get the spare, and it flipped a good amount on the backend, getting the 4 pin.  I figured it was me, and not the lane, so I didn't adjust.  I got up there and threw a good shot and left a 2-10, and got the two pin.  Then I realized that they were definately oilier, so I gave the shot two boards to the right with my feet on both lanes.  The 8th frame, I thought I made a heck of a shot, and I had to strike out to get a 226, and my first 800.  The ball didn't hit for some reason and I left a 2-8, which my punisher snapped by, just getting the 2 pin.

I finished that 5 game block at +282. (+/- 190)

I wound up coming back and having a pretty bad block the second half and actually went 9 under, leaving me at +273.  I am the cut for tomorrow.  I go back tomorrow morning and shoot match play style.

All in all, I was happy with how today went, especially that start.  It was fun times.

Games wound up being:
1st block
300
277
192
209
254

+ 282,  246.4 Average

2nd block
193
188
180
166
214

-9 189 average

Overall
+273, 217.3 average.

Sorry about the long post, but I was excited.

Yeah, I wound up qualifying 8th, so I just snuck in there.  I'm now one of five people that has a star up on their banner currently.

J.O.G. is sneaking up fast on me, lol.

Edit: And "apparently" I'm the first person to go negative a block and still make the cut.  I don't think that's right, but it's what I'm told.
