How do you apply neo-tac products
« on: May 22, 2003, 04:07:33 AM »
I applied liquid sandpaper and I couldn't get it to sand anything, yes I shook it up, but after I stopped the spinner it was more shiny then went before. what's up with that?

next.... Hook-it, I can't figure out this product. I put a coat on my ball, and it was like a coat of oil. I couldn't wipe the ball off with a regular towel so I had to use my microfiber towel. But it was still oily looking. so I just left it alone, and I guess it evaporated. How do you use this product?

re-new it..... what does it do. The ball was the same and i didn't see any difference.

Am I using the product wrong?

For the hook-it, I use wipealls, just wet the paper with hook-it, rub it on half the ball, let it set for about 15 sec, then wipe it off.  I then switch to a clean fold in the towel, and repeat until the ball is clean.  I then switch to the other half and repeat the process.

Renew it, to me is a milder cleaner.  I just spray it on the ball, again wait 15-20 sec, and wipe it off.  Renew it will also polish the ball BUT the amount of polish it applies is miniscule.  Probably take 15-20 applications to really get a shine out of it.

I use renew it inbetween games, hook-it after the league set is over.

Try doing it by hand, and you may need s lightly bit more than seems logical.

As opposed to the liquid sandpaper, I found I needed VERY little of this on a piece of paper towel to clean the ball up a lot. I put the paper towel over the top of the can/jar and just turned it over quickly and back upright. I had just wet maybe a 1" circle and applied that to the ball with the paper towel (WHILE WEARING A PROTECTIVE RUBBER GLOVE, OF COURSE!) If yo uneed a little more, do the same, just barely wetting the paper towel with another circle.

If you have so much that you can't wipe it off, you put way too much on the towel.

It's a cleaner and polisher. Mostly a cleaner.

Are you sure you read the product descriptions and how to properly use them??
Maybe you got hold of some bad info. Please read this:

Re-new-it is one of the easiest-to-use polishes I have ever used. It'll clean polished balls and dull balls. Used by machine it will very easily polish dull balls up to as much as 2000 grit polish.

With Liquid Sandpaper, you MUST shake the bottle enough to break the ball bearing free inside the bottle....otherwise, you don't get the proper mixture of grit in with the fluid.  Also, Liquid Sandpaper is designed to be used by hand rather than with a spinner....using it with a ball spinner can actually shine up the ball more rather than giving the ball a 600 grit matte finish.

Hook-It goes on best with a paper towel, work it around the ball for at least 30 seconds, then use a clean paper towel to wipe down the ball.  Yes, after wiping the remaining Hook-It off, the ball will still look wet for a minute or two until the rest of the Hook-It evaporates off of the ball.  Neo-Tac recommends using Hook-It every game for best results.

Renew-It is actually a polish that will give the ball about a 2000 grit finish.  Renew-it is designed to take a ball up from a 600 grit surface (Liquid Sandpaper) to 2000 grit finish.  You shouldn't need to use Renew-It every game, unless the lanes that you are bowling on are extremely abrasive.

Hopefully that clears things up a little bit.  The Neo Tac products do a very good job, even though your results so far haven't quite panned out satisfactorily.  As far as ball cleaners, Hook-It is one of the best ball cleaners that you can currently buy on the market.

I normally apply Renew-It and Hook-It this way.  I will put the ball in the spinner on low, shake up the bottle of Renew-it and  pour some on a towel.  Cup the towel over the moving ball firmly and while it is spinning hit it with a couple of shots of water from a spray bottle to heat it up.  After I have done the entire side with the Renew-It, flip the ball over and repeat.  Hook-It is done the same way but without water.

One more comment about Hook-It...
It seems to me that Hook-it will evaporate eventually, but I think what actually happens most of the time is that it soaks into the ball.  On most balls, Hook-It will seem to dry up after 30-60 seconds of massaging it into the ball.  On other balls, specifically my Diesel Particle Solid, Hook-It stays on the ball for a LONG time.  It has done this ever since the ball was brand new.  After I finish rubbing Hook-It into this ball, it just stays on the surface.  I can wipe the excess off with a towel, and the ball still has a residual quantity of Hook-It on it for 5 minutes or more.  I'm obsessive about keeping my bowling balls clean, so my stuff never gets very dirty.  Once last year our sixth man was bowling and he had never done anything to clean his Messenger.  Of course, he was getting no reaction out of it anymore.  I talked him into letting me attack it with Hook-It before our league started.  I grabbed a stack of bar napkins and went at it.  For about the first 3 go-rounds, I got black gunk off of the ball.  After that, I started getting yellow, oily gunk out of the ball.  I never did have time to clean it up to my standards, but that ball recovered a good bit of it's reaction that night and the guy started using Hook-It himself after that.

This is not conclusive by any means, but based on my experience with my own stuff and the  anecdote just above, I have arrived at the theory that Hook-It soaks into most bowling balls and to at least some extent displaces oil that has soaked into the ball, bringing the oil to the surface for removal.  I think evaporation plays a part in it, but the way that the stuff sits for ages on my Diesel tells me that on most balls, it soaks in.

da Shiv -  it's the funniest thing you should say that about the Diesel particle because that's the ball I was using the hook-it on. I was alittle worried because the hook-it stayed on the ball for so long.

Kevspins2--
I'm glad to hear that.  It did occur to me to wonder if my Diesel Particle Solid was having some kind of anomalous reaction to Hook-It that even other Diesel Particle Solids didn't have.  Hook-It takes to my Diesel Particle Pearl pretty much the same way it does to most bowling balls.
