How do you shoot the 7?

I seem to struggle more with the 7 pin nowadays than the 10...how do you shoot it?

I used to hate the 7 but since I've moved left and stood about center and aim over 5th arrow with a little hook on the ball, I've been fine. That is of course, assuming your a righty. I've always had the problem of standing way right and missing my mark to the right and having it hang in the oil but since I've moved left I rarely have that problem anymore.

Try it out and when you practice next just try different lines and solely practice taking out the seven. After maybe two or three games of that, I swear you'll have much more confidence in making them. Speaking of which, I have to start practicing tens again, I'm starting to miss them

Stand centre, medium hook ball aimed at 2nd arrow, slowed right down. Never miss it now :-)

Ive used Plastic and Strike ball for my 4 pin or 7 pin.

Srike ball for 4/7 pins, I will stand 1 dot right of middle, basically ill stand on the 15 board and throw the ball over 10 board with the same amount of rev/hook as a strike for the 4/7pin.

Plastic ball for 4/7pins, I will stand on 10th board and roll the ball over the 15th board. The plastic will hook about 2-3 boards so you have a 3 board margin of error.

I have bigger room for error with the strike ball then plastic but can use either at anytime.

On a house shot, maybe, but, sorry to be blunt, in a non-walled tournament or the USBC/ABCs or a PBA shot or a Sport Shot, you'd be dead meat.

As most have pointed out a straight ball or a vastly reduced VERY slight hook is THE way to go. (How you choose to throw this straight ball is your choice.) Line your body up using whatever middle range arrow with which you feel most comfortable, 3rd, 4th or 5th are traditional, 4th is most common and throw. The smaller the hook, the less you need to know about the oil pattern or how it has transitioned and less practice balls you need to line up.

For any oil pattern other than a walled up house shot, this is the ONLY safe method to shoot any spare, including any double wood. (Of course you don't need to use a center range arrow for every spare.)

Very very good point. On a sport shot I learned quickly that my method for the 4/7pin spare does not work on a sport condition. Thats when I learned how to shoot the spares with plastic.

Any ideas on where I should stand if I'm targetting the fourth arrow, intending to go straight at the spare?

I shoot straight across the center arrow, my right foot on the first dot on the right ( I'm right handed) and for 210's left foot on first dot on left.

Mentally, I don't have 10's or 7's ...I have 8's and 9's, it allows a hair amount of error. Works for me, but it takes practice, open palm, throw straight....Good Luck !

China:  I move 11 boards right with my feet and throw my strike ball at my strike target.

Flat condition:  I make an 11 board parallel move left (i.e.  feet and eyes) and use my strike ball.

Any other condition:  I stand on 26 (inside edge of left foot) and throw my plastic ball straight over 25.  Actually, I could do this on all conditions, but for reasons too numerous to go into, I don't.  I do go straight with plastic on all my right side spares containing the six and/or ten pins.

Polyester ball. I stand at 22nd board with my right shoe tip and aim at 21st board (1 board left of middel arrow; standing 24th with same target for 4 pin), break back my wrist and make a rather slow, free delivery.

I experimented with my strike shot, but the risks to play across the middle section with unknown oil volume or carry down converted me to the straight shot. I's recommend doing so, too.

It depends on how you walk.
If you were a straight walker, which seems rare in bowling, AND depending on how straight you throw the ball, I'd line up my throwing shoulder with a line from the 7 pin back through the 4th arrow to place where you stand.

Don't overthink this!

I have been very successful knocking the 7 pin down by moving my feet about 9 boards to the right and moving my target 5 boards to the left. I use my normal release with my strike ball.

I would estimate my success rate is >90%.It dpeends on the carrydown.

for me on the seven pin i get my left foot on the last dot (to the left) and through it straight with little hand and because my hybrid likes to grab and hook late when i don't put hand in it i put decent speed it moves a couple boards and bam its there

formulate the outsides. Use 5 board adjustments. Corespond with the first arrow. Look farther or sooner. Corespond and let the lane do the work. Doesn't matter the shot, I can adjust.

Stand in the middle and hook at it...that's an extreme guess and the hard way of making it.
