Next Go-To ball
« on: January 30, 2010, 02:16:00 PM »
Im looking for a ball to go to once my pin up mutant becomes too strong. I was looking at maybe a Reign/One Pearl/Playmaker as a go-to ball. i need length with good backend recovery and not a whole lot of strength in the midlanes. which of these would you suggest or what might you add? my problem is once the lanes break down the mutant will burn up or will be too strong to control.

Reign hands down, Heavy mass near the top of a core easily wins over touchy Asymmetric''s like the One Pearl and the Play Maker has a super Low Rg designed for more Mid lane, so as I said, the Reign wins in a land slide!

Of the ones mentioned, I have to agree with the above statement completely. If you still want to look around more, look at balls with higher RG values and balls with pearlized covers. Both of those factors tend to add length through the midlanes and, if the cover is reasonably strong, will allow recovery at the breakpoint.

Reign is very hard on the backend with good length
if you dont want such a hard move on the backend the Nomad Pearl is a very good option
I have mine drilled pin up between ring fingers and CG kicked 45 deg. out from center of my grip and I get great lenght with a very controllable backend movemnt
this is pretty much my go to ball now on fresh league shots and fresh tournament shots I can play just about any part of the lane by changing my release a little and get great carry from all spots on the lane
might be an option that you want to look into

Is the Reign skid/flippy or can it be long with controlled angular backend?

Angular control? Try an Ogre SS from Visionary.

My Reign is extremely strong off the spot, but it also is drilled 5x4 with only a 1.5" pin buffer.  That's a very skid/flip kind of drill.  I went with a 500/4000 finish, then applied just a little polish by hand to prevent it from getting too much length and too much snap.  The end result is that it's surprisingly very predictable and controllable despite creating so much angle on the backend.  It's a very good step down once I burn up a spot with a stronger ball since it lets me move back right a little and get in the friction sooner without worrying about early hook.
