How do you remove grips?
« on: August 03, 2004, 09:23:54 PM »
Ok, this is a question for anyone who knows how to do this. I have been playin around with switching grips out of old balls that fit better, into new ones. How do I get the grips out without destroying them? I dont have one of those grip remover things that you just push in, so how do I go about it without ruining the grip?

Thanks everyone for the information on the Pliobond Glue. We have 2 Ace Hardware stores where I live, both less than 10 minutes from my house.

I use the nail file of the nail clipper. Have for years. Works great.
Clean residues with a triangle scrapper.

Pliobond is not instant like super glue.  It will take a few minutes.  I usually do this before I go to bed and then it will be ready for the next day, but I know someone who will use it just before bowling in a tournament and he said it takes about 5-10 minutes to set good.  Most of the time this is not a problem.  The benefit of Pliobond is that it 'peels' out when you want to remove it, and doesnt rip up the insert during removal.

MI 2 AZ is exactly right.  It doesn't take long for it to dry at all abou 15-20 minutes for sure will do the trick.  It never rips the grip or leave residue inside the finger holes when removed.

BK use you moms scissors. I did this all the time.
Put scissors in with the angled edge FACING the grip.
and hold tightly and work your way around the ball. it does
dull the scissors, ask my ex, I think thats what caused it!!
lol. I have not ever had a problem getting grips out but then
I never let the guys that do my balls put them in, I do it myself.
and I only glue in 2 or 3 spots.
